Thanks in advance,

Also does anyone know any good boarding kennels or training classes in the Haverfordwest area, SW Wales? Several of the kennels I have contacted won't take my 5 month-old weimaraner as the breed is apprently too vicious to be handled - one lady even asked if I could actually touch him :-/ She won't take rotties, dobes, staffs etc either.

Sorry Johnno I don't know any in Liverpool, hope someone can help you though.

This is the first time I've ever heard of a Weim being described as viscious

Have you asked the breeder - he/she may be able to help?

Yes first time I heard they were vicious too :-) - sorry Fiona I don't think I was very clear in my post :-) - Zak is soft as butter, he is more likely to lick you to death than anything else :-D but the local perception (well, at the places I have tried anyway) is that weims are nasty so they won't consider having them in to board  The lady who runs dog training classes asked about whether I could touch him, and said hopefully with a lot of work he will be a nice dog in the end  None of these people has ever met my pup, nor did they ask me anything about him. This is the first time I have come across breed prejudice, I was really cross!

We did find a kennels 40 minutes away that was excellent, run by a lovely lady who used to work with rescue dogs, and when we picked him up she said he had been very good, if a bit boisterous. :-)

My friend used to get cross as everyone assumed her rottie was nasty, this was a few years back when the papers were always on about them being devil dogs etc!

Hi Alex, long time no hear!!!!!! :D
have you moved or are you still in Bristol?
can't believe you're having trouble finding training and kennels for Zak, even with my rotties I've not come across kennels who've refused them. Floyd, our 7 mth Rotty has been going training since he was fully vaccinated and he loves it, I'm just hoping I can find another good class when we move. :D

Hi Julie

Yes it's been a very busy couple of months, we moved from Bradley Stoke to West Wales! We had no problems with training and kennels in Bristol, it's just a case of hunting round down here now. (They all used to go to the kennels in Hambrook, and training in Winterbourne.)

How are you getting on, hope your three dogs are all OK, and the hubby and children of course, when / where are you moving to? Bet you can't wait, isnt it a nightmare first keeping the house tidy for all those viewings, then packing millions of boxes, it'll be nice to actually get it over with! It's absolutely beautiful round here though so well worth the hassle of moving - out of the city at last, hooray! Loads more garden for the dogs to wreck too!

Hi Alex,
the big escape from sadly Broke, can't say I blame you!! :D
We're moving to Melksham hopefully the end of this month, totally agree with you about it being a nightmare, we're lucky that we sold our house quite quick so we didn't have to keep it tidy for too long lol :) I'll be glad to get out of the city as well, although hubby is worried I might not cope without all the shops around me!! cheeky sod!
send me a pic of Zak when you have time, I'll bet he's huge now, Floyd is like scooby doo, all legs and a silly bark!!!!!!! :D

Hiya,

Sorry if I gave you the impression I thought that your Weim was viscious. I've got several friends with Weims and they're all lovely, a little mad but very soppy and not at all viscious.

I'm glad you've found a kennel for him. :)

HI Johnno

Have a pal who teaches puppy classes, she is excellent and I can hignly recommend her. The classes are small and informal ( so lots of attention individually).

Hi Fiona

No, I just thought maybe I'd given that impression! I am really glad you know some other nice weims, speaking to people round here I wondered what I had gone and done getting a weimaraner! He is definitely mad and a real handful but so soppy and lovely! Mind you cockers are a bit mad too arent they (my dog Jake is half cocker) I always like reading what Holly's been up to!

Cheers
Alex

Hollys latest antics include eating her way through the roast beef joint on Sunday and retreiving a stunned black bird from the patio and presenting it to me :D I wasn't very impresed with the blackbird, even less so when she started eating it so she's now sulking that I didn't like her present :D :D :D

Compared to some cockers she's quite sensible :D

HI
I sold a puppy from my first litter nearly 8 years ago, in your area. The lady already had dogs various, a lot had been puppy farm discards.

The area has a lot of puppy farms, and Weims have been commercially quite popular over the last decade or so. They are a big strong breed, and it could be that the ones the Kennels and classes have experience of are poorly bred ones from stock with lousy temperament. Most trainers have met some really nasty examples of all the commercially popular breeds, Cockers, Retrievers, Westies, Yorkies etc etc etc.

Vets are the same when it comes to health, as what do they see in their surgeries, the sick ones!

if this "trainer" has the attitude that certain dogs are viscious and should not come to class, then she is not an appropriate person to train any dog. i've never heard of a reputable trainer refusing dogs on basis of breed. stay well away. all weimeraners where i take my afghan are perfectly well behaved. very odd! i would definately suggest asking to see her qualifications.

Not sure this person should be running kennels. worrying.
