Pepper has had a massive diarrhea accident all over my NEW wheat colored carpet!!! Do any of you seasoned pros have suggestions on how to clean it up/get stains out? I will scrape what I can off tonight, but I really need advice on getting the stain and smell out. Poor girl didn't have any problems earlier today, but obviously something was bothering her tum tonight!

Hiya
I'd use biological washing powder or liquid to get the staining out -but try not to oversoak the carpet ,and try not to rub too much and for any residual smell I always swear by surgical spirits but you can buy de-oderisers
good luck -hope you get it out

We used a steam cleaner after an accident on our light coloured hall carpet - I washed off as much as possible, but had stains left. The steam cleaner worked very well. I think that you can hire them.

Quinn,
If you can get a hold of a 'big green machine' from a friend or the bx, you shouldn't have too much problems in making your carpet look new again. Even a 'little green machine' will work, but it will take longer and probably 2-3 times to go over the area.
Remember...blot, don't wipe :( :(
If you can get the excess (goo) up with a shop vac, instead of doing it by hand, your carpet will thank you.
Good luck and I hope it works out.

I bought my hubby a book by the queen of clean ! a US one I think! it was meant as a joke as he is so house proud ( mind you our OES is softening him up on that one!) anyway for bad stains on carpet this queen recommends saturating the stain with soda water ! something to do with the fizz lifts the stain to the surface and you blot it off! I have not tried this yet so dont know if it works or if it would remove the smell !!

Hi Jude,
I've heard of her..... apparently, she's extremely popular in the US. She appeared on Oprah a couple of times and I've seen the book, but decided to wait until the library has it ;) :D
Quinn, how is the mess this morning???
crossing my fingers for you :)

bleary eyed Good morning........the little splatters came up fairly well. They tended to be mucousy and sat on top of the carpet. However the main puddle is going to take a bit of work to shift. I got most of it up last night with just 1/2tsp washing up liquid (dishwashing detergent) and 1 cup of warm water with another clean bowl of water to rinse my cloth in. It took AGES! I think I will have a go with some other suggestions later tonight. I've got a big day of volunteering at my daughters school and don't have time to work on it this morning.
Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. We haven't had anymore explosive poo incidents, but she did get sick on the kitchen floor this AM. Poor thing. :(

Sorry to hear of your trouble, if you can get hold of a product called Stain Devil you need the one for blood, the thing that stains is the protien and the blood one should shift it, they don't do a dog poo one I'm afraid. Jackie

Quinn,
You can hire carpet steam cleaners from Safeways supermarkets - they're not very expensive but really do the job well.
I hope this helps,
Fiona

Quinn, I would hire a carpet cleaner like Fiona suggests, a lot of dry cleaners do them too - also Jewsons Hire point do them (hubby works there and we have one every month) Julie:)

I use Vanish Power (foam carpet cleaner) it works very well
We use 'Odourfree' made by Alstoe Animal Health, available from vets, seems a bit expensive but is wonderful on loads of stains, you just spray it on and press it down and leave it to work, it can take a few days and a few applications but I haven't had a stain it has failed to get up, and we have had stains from both ends of 2 dogs, a cat and 2 small children (oh and one badly behaved husband!)

I use 1001 cleaning liquid, it has one for carpets and upholstry and only costs a couple of pound, very useful in the husky house :)

I use Auto Glym Interior car shampoo, I know its for a car but it really works, I found out by accident when my meg, had diarrhoea about 5 months ago and decided to go on my very light cream bedroom carpet, At the time i had no other shampoos and thought what the hell ill give auto glym a go, It left no traces and smelt lovely, Now ive always got a bottle knocking around, Its also good for tea, coffee and red wine.
Bliss.

I was brought up on an animal sanctuary. On having a SKUNK brought in, we were at our wits end on how to remove smell until a US vet advised those little bottles of Britvic tomato juice you can but in Pubs. Believe it or not, it works. (also great for accidents by just whelped bitches who have eaten too many afterbirths- the smell is amazing!!!)

Interesting that you state a free dog cleaning product for people in your network, but don't state where you are? Or at least not that I could find it...but I am a bit thick! ;-)

Your proofreader doesn't do your business any favours! ;-)

:-o ;-)

Lel,
Yes, tomato juice will stain a carpet. It's only used on dogs to get the whiff out of coat and skin - definitely not on anything else!

This thread is 5 years old!!
Get that Captain's hat off Newf and give the dredger back!!
(or however you spell dredger!??) :-D

LOL HG A post has been removed from the thread for advertising. Newfie was replying to that poster.

TUT I didn't notice, but it was on Active topics! ;-)
PS Thanks for explaing miss moders!(Gill that is!) :-o
If you put a saucer of vinegar in the room it will kill the smell. Having a projectile vomiting son and a MIL who cleaned for a living Im full of them!! It really works with cigarette smoke as well. As a kid we always had some in our room so Mum & Dad would not smell the smoking!!!!

And what exactly do you do to kill the smell of vinegar??? :-)
Oh you put the saucer next to smell not on it!!! then tip said vinegar away.
