Topic Dog Boards / General / What would have??

Here's one for all you champdoggers.

If you were to have any other breed than what you currently have what would it be.  Pick no more than 2 for each group  (Gundog, Hound, Pastoral, Terrier, Toy, Utility and Working) and say why.

Here's Mine

My current breed is Gordon Setters

GUNDOG - Sussex Spaniel
Sussex spaniel  - full of character, love their independent streak!

HOUND - Bloodhound (blanket black) & Borzoi
Bloodhound - love their prescence and so dignified. Would have to be a blanket black as I just love that colour combo :)
Borzoi - So graceful

PASTORAL - Rough Collie
rough Collie - don't know why just something that draws me to them

TERRIER - Scottish Terrier
Scottish Terrier - love their character and their stubbornness

TOY - Bichon Frise
Bichon Frise - seem so full of life

UTILITY - Dalmation
Dalmation - don't know why but love the very spotty ones!!

WORKING - Newfoundland
Newfoundland - nearly had one but OH didn't like the slobber or the hair (still haven't worked out why then we got a Gordon!).  Love their laid back natures

Good question :)  Hmmm, I'll give it a go!

Gundog :      Weimaraner, GSP, Viszla and Pointers (I love them all equally LOL) - any smooth coated, sinewy, athletic types
Hound :        Very split between Agfghan and Borzoi, but probably in that order of preference
Pastoral:       I of course have THE BEST of them already but also admire the two Pyrenean breeds - P Mountain dog - P Sheepdog :-p
Terrier:         Soft Coated Wheatens and Norwich
Toy:              I love Min Pins and very attracted by Havanese
Utility:           Mini Schnauzer and TTs - easier choices :)
Working:       Dobes (always been a fan) and Malamutes

Good topic!

I currently have an Alaskan Malamute, CKCS and a Samoyed so these are my ultimates in each group, but if I had to have anything else it would be:

GUNDOG - Cocker Spaniel (black, show type) - walked Cockers as a child and have always loved them, they are such characters.
HOUND - Beagle - my friend has one and he's beautiful if not a little naughty!
PASTORAL - Old English Sheepdog - have always loved them since my mums friend had one
Rough Collie - used to walk one when I was a child, love their gentle nature and their beautiful looks
TERRIER - Soft Coated Wheaten - love their cheekiness and their shaggy looks
TOY - Pomeranian - just love their little foxy features and general 'cuteness'
UTILITY - Dalmatian - gorgeous dogs, my friend has one and she is such a little love.
WORKING - Giant Schnauzer - love how smart they look and their beards!

Gundog :      I have a secret hankering for a Golden Retriever :-)
Hound :       I have the best hound already, but would love (and will have) a Saluki one day
Pastoral:      I like most of this group, have border collies already, would love an Aussie or a gsd
Terrier:        Not a fan of terriers, would have a border if I had to have one as they seem quite placid (in comparison to most terriers that is).
Toy:             I loved our chinese cresteds and could see myself with more in my old age :-)
Utility:         not sure, a dalmation if I had to have a utility for their lovely clean lines and houndy outline.
Working:      Newfie or a Bernese would be lovely

OK, here goes:

Working: already have Dogues but also like Mastiffs and Bullmastiffs;

It's a pity it's not the other way round Tigger2 as I could have supplied you with a terrier - but sorry the GR stays with me :-)

Yikes....Cooper!!!! Errr I'd love to but I'm fairly sure I've got to emigrate errrr today actually :-)  Now the gorgeous Harley, that's another matter, if you change your mind let me know :-)

There are so many gorgeous breeds of dog my thoughts often turn to which others I'd like....
especially GUNDOG - Golden Retriever. So beautiful and a lovely family dog I think.
HOUND - Afghan Hound. Another gorgeous dog, love their elegance and beautiful coat.
PASTORAL - Bearded Collie, more lovely coat!
TERRIER - my least favourite group but I do like Bedlingtons and the hard to find Dandie Dinmonts.
TOY - already have two of these, next in line would be the super cute Pomeranian
UTILITY - the lovely intelligent Miniature Poodle
WORKING - Leonberger, simply stunning dogs I think. Maybe one day?!
- By breehant Date 02.02.09 18:54 UTC
Gundog: Bracco, Viszla (both types), Setters (English & Gordon's), Flatcoats.
Although like pretty much all of the gundog group for various attributes.

Hound: Bloodhound, Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit), Irish wolfhound, Wirehaired Daschund

Pastoral: Briard, Komondor, Bergamasco

Terrier: Parson Russell, Soft coated Wheaten, Sealyham
Love terriers they are such feisty chaps and I love that
(I could include Kerry Blue, Irish & Airedale)

Toy: Italian Greyhound
Least favourite group for me I am afraid.

Utility: Chow Chow & German Spitz (mittle)

Working: Boxer, Giant Schnauzer, Russian Black Terrier & Bouvier
So difficult to stick to two, these are my choices, but there could have been so many more :) :) :)
- By Dogz Date 02.02.09 18:54 UTC

Isn't the variety of dogs amazing, there is something to suit all tastes and lifestyles, I find it fascinating! There are loads of breeds I love the look of but I know wouldn't suit me so have to be content with admiring from afar eg Belgian Shephards, think the Malinois is beautiful but I doubt I'd be up to the job of training one! Have to be ruled by head not heart or I'd be overrun with gorgeous dogs actually.
- By dexter [gb] Date 02.02.09 19:18 UTC
Gundog: my fave group would love all of them :)...Hard to chose two, but would love a Golden retriever, and a English pointer.

Hound: Greyhound, bloodhounds

Pastoral: Smooth collies, GSD

Terrier: English bull terriers, Border terriers

Toy: Cavalier king charles sweet little dogs, pugs

Utility: Dalmations

Working: It would have to be Dobes, absolutely love them. Boxers a close second, but love Newfies as well....the list could on :)
- By Stormy84 [au] Date 03.02.09 07:01 UTC
Great thread! I have a Weim and a Boxer (the latter lives with Mum and Dad) so aside from those breeds, here goes..... apologies if I have got any of the classifications wrong, I am by no means an expert! :-)

GUNDOG: Vizsla and GSP (both top of my wish list)
HOUND: Rhodesian Ridgeback
PASTORAL: BC
TERRIER: Airedale
TOY: Min Pin
UTILITY: Mini Schnauzer
WORKING: Neo Mastiff, Dobe, Great Dane (sorry but I had to have three)

The next pup is either going to be another Weim or a Vizsla, but not until little Miss Stormy is well behaved enough to influence a little 'brother.'
- By ice_cosmos Date 04.02.09 19:36 UTC
Gundog: Labrador, Nova scotia duck tolling retriever (or Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla)

Hound: Norwegian Elkhound, Irish Wolfhound

Pastoral: Australian Shepherd, Border Collie

Terrier: English Bull Terrier, West Highland White Terrier

Toy: None

Utility: Eurasier, Shiba Inu

Working: Alaskan Malamute, Greenland Dog  (or Giant Schnauzer)

Likewise you too, Ruth!   Poor Curtis, all that handsomeness and no-one wants him!

Gundog I'm not allowed to pick my current breed am I?   So probably a Sussex Spaniel as they look like a dog with character and maybe a Flattie as their temperaments remind me of Mia & Curtis.

Hound BFdeB & a Beagle.  I saw a BFdeB at Birmingham Ch. show one year and her bottom just about wagged off when Mia & her sniffed each other.   I like nice natured dogs.   Again like both breeds look to be characters and I'm a sucker for a good expression although the Beagles wanderlust may get the BP up.

Toy  CKCS - similar comments re: expressions

Working Newfie

Pastoral oooo, not really 'clued up' on this group.

Utility ditto

Terrier Border as they look to be about the least 'terrier tempered' out the lot!
- By k92303 Date 04.02.09 19:54 UTC
I already have 2 from Pastoral so:

GUNDOG - German Wirehaired Pointer

HOUND - Borzoi

PASTORAL - Rough Collie any day of the week I have one already and I love his attitude to life

TERRIER - BorderTerrier

TOY -Papillion

UTILITY - Standard Poodle

WORKING - Dobermann
- By Jewel [gb] Date 04.02.09 20:09 UTC
I have ABB Bulldogs and CKCS but, love LOTS of breeds :-)

Gundogs - Black Labradors are fab, I've always had a thing for them. Really like the Clumber Spaniel too

Hounds - Whippet for sure, we had a gorgeous blue fawn bitch and I would love another one day. Then the Deerhound.

Toy - Affenpinscher and the Lowchen - I think they are both adorable.

Working - Bower and Alaskan Malamute from this group for me, followed very closely by a Dobermann

Pastoral - I would kill for ( well perhaps not actually kill :-)  ) a Pyrenean Sheepdog, just love there dear little faces and wonderful character. Then the Australian Shepherd.

Utility - I really like the little Schipperke and the Boston Terrier.

Terrier - Bedlington Terrier and the Dandie Dinmont.
- By cutewolf [gb] Date 04.02.09 20:36 UTC

If I couldn't have Tollers then... argh there's so many I like from this group! Probably a Chessie or Large Munsterlander. I love the look of show type English Springers too but I don't know if I'd own one. I'd really love a Stabyhoun but as far as I know I'd have to import one!

PASTORAL
Aussie or Finnish Lapphund

TERRIER
Border Terrier

TOY
Pug

UTILITY
Standard Poodle or Tibetan Spaniel

WORKING
