Hi
I am getting a basset hound puppy (10 weeks) next weekend. Please help , what is the best puppy food to feed him. There is so much to choose from! Want it to be easy to buy but good for my pup. Help......

Keep him on whatever he is used to , to begin with .  You need to find out what he is on so that you can get some in . Also find out when he is usually fed so that you don't change his routine too much !

are you going to be calling him elvis?  that is really weird, I had never heard of a dog called elvis and it was my 2nd choice for my pup.  then when I went to puppy class there was a dog called elvis. :)

Hi yeah, he's going to be called Elvis, husband not to sure of name yet but I love it and the kids like it to. Everyone i've told has laughed - hope thats a good thing! The breeeder has told me he's on Purina and another ( didnt catch the name), will have that to start with not not sure if thats the best thing to keep him on.

If you have chosen your breeder well, regarding their experience, health tested parents, happy confident puppies seen with mum etc,  then there would be no reason to suspect a change is required.  Ask your breeder what they like about this food, what made them choose it over others available and it should reassure you about the quality.

Unless you are immediately concerned or you come to notice your pup isn't doing as well as you'd hope then there will be plenty of time to work out what food he may do better on.  If budget or availability is a concern then ask your breeder what their alternative recommendations might be, they probably have some experience of other foods too.

Good luck with Elvis :)

Take a large clean bottle with you and ask the breeder for some of the water they give the pups you would be surprised how little pup diarrhoea I have had since I started doing this.

My GSD of a lifetime was called Elvis by his first owner & when I got him back aged 7 I kept the name much to my embarrassment as definitely wasn't a fan  This was back in 1974(when Elvis the dog was born got him back in 1981)
