Topic Dog Boards / Health / Surgery inflamed lymph nodes?

One my puppies left for her new home at 10 weeks. About five days after having settled in well in her new home, she stopped eating and was vomiting. The new owners took her to the vet and x-rays showed that there was a blockage (originally thought to be something she ingested). When they performed surgery to remove the suspected object, they found out that it was a very inflamed lymph node in her stomach. Has anyone ever had any experience with this?

When I asked the vet what they think might have caused this, they couldn't answer. They said is does happen on a rare occasion. Then last night I was speaking with a friend who has the same breed and much to my surprise the same thing happened to her pup around 4 months of age... I'm just very puzzled. If anyone knows any information on the possible cause, please let me know! My friend's vet also didn't have an answer as to cause, however, thought that it might have been a reaction to the vaccine.

Pup is recovering very well and is back to her normal active self!

Lymph nodes are part of our defence system.  They act as filters trapping bacteria and anything other unwanted particles in the body.  I think when your vet says this happens rarely they perhaps mean it rarely causes a blockage leading to surgery.  The causes can be anything from an infection to cancer.  Are they having the node biopsied?
