i know she is still 9 days away, but i just keep freaking out and thinking shes in whelp, she did start milking yesterday, and from what my vet said, she let go of her mucous plug, so it should be anywhere for 24-48 hours, im excited, yet scared!

if you are so worried nip to the vets to let him have a look to put your mind at rest, then you would be able to calm down and prepare for the birth.
Hope she holds on at least 48hrs.

>thinking shes in whelp

'In whelp' means pregnant. She is in whelp. She's isn't yet 'in labour' - known as  'whelping'. (Just so that you don't confuse the vet when you phone!)

I would get her to the vets, if her plug has gone and she does start labour, there's a high chance that pups won't be viable.

I was at the vet yesterday after she let her mucuous plug. He said if it was her plug that she still has 30 some odd hours left. We are hoping for a natural birth, all puppies are kicking, she is fine, im the one waiting around like a dope! She has become more aggressive this morning, and is only drinking fluids. (pedialite)

What do you mean by more aggressive ? Is she normally aggressive?
- By indapendent1 [us] Date 30.01.09 15:37 UTC
No she has never been aggressive. She is a very nice bitch, but my male got in her way as she was making her way to their bed ((not whelp area)). She snapped at him, and thats not the norm. She is sleeping away right now, while i sit here and stare at her. I got my vet on call, and i decided not to midwife, the woman wanted too much, didnt have the meds license, and my vet is 24hours and nearby. Im pretty sure I have prepared myself for the worst, and im going by textbook.

im going by textbook.

I hope that your bitch has read the same book.

What day is she on now?  I would be extremely concerened if your vet has said he thinks it will be in the next 30 hours.  Your dog may have a natural birth, but any pups may not be completely formed (open molera's with no skin barrier are common with pups from early births) or viable and you may have a difficult time on your hands.  Good luck

She is definitely passed her 55th and maybe upto 61, remmber they werent supposed to mate. I could never be for sure, vet says they're ok, very lively, there are 3 im sure. She is showing definite signs, her breast milk came in yesterday, JMO its always less than a week after. I like my vet, my boy is 4.5 and he has taken care of him since he was 3 months old. My boy is a healthy akc chi.

It all sounds normal to me. You will know if there is something wrong. I spose its like giving birth for the first time yourself - you keep thinking something might be happening but when it does... you REALLY know!!
