Topic Dog Boards / General / Sainsburys insurance

Just been checking insurance quotes and found what seems a really good one with Sainsburys.  Quoted (sorry my pound key isn't working!)$9.83 per month for lifetime cover, which includes $7500 vets fees per condition, $75 excess.  This is for a 2 year old Flatcoat, my 7 year olds quote was $15.77.
Has anyone got Sainsburys insurance, and had to claim?
Thanks, Sam.

Sam, it's not strictly 'life' cover as it's 7500 per condition (but with no time limit), i.e. if your dog has a life long illness, once that 7500 is used they will no longer cover that illness.

It may well be that £7500 would pay for medication for a simple condition for the whole of the dogs life.  However, if this is used up purely on the diagnosis of a condition, all continuing treatment would have to be paid by you.

Does that make sense??!

It still looks like a good policy though, it just depends what you're looking for.

hi, i have my three dogs insured with sainsburys two akitas and a crested. The monthly payments are approx £15 each for akitas and £13 for the crested. They pay out very quickly and are always helpful, my crested broke her leg at 12 weeks old and she had a £2000 claim, they dealt with it no probs. i would highly recommend them, only thing to check is you have the higher level of cover as they offer two levels.

the underwriters for sainburys are axa who where the underwrite for m/s when they started and then their hocked the prices up,
then sold out m/s last to another company.

Hi,

I have Sainsburys insurance for my 15 year old dog.  I have had it since he was 11.  Never had to claim untill the past year when he developed CRF and have made 2 claims.  Although it took around 7 weeks to get the payout, (I am not sure if that was the vets being slow in completing the forms) they did pay out without any problems. My payments did increase considerabley however as he got older. They started off at £24 per month and are now at £57 per month!

Thanks everyone!  I'm going to go with them.  I was with Healthy Pets, but they doubled the premium this year and their cover isn't as good as sainsburys.  I haven't had to claim yet, so I may aswell change.

Just entered CD's as I was about to ask the same question as you Sam-JO about Sainsbury's pet insurance.  My Robby was with Healthy Pets last year and I have just received the renewal notice.  The comments seem to be quite positive and Sainsbury's have this offer of three months free on renewal next year and no price increase but is that the price with or without the internet 15% discount? at the moment I do not have the answer to that one.  Joany

Our rott was insured with sainsburys & they were fantastic ! He had a few medical problms bless him & they covered all of it, special diet ( trial didnt work ) Chiropractor, hydrotherapy. All his tests & treatment regarding cancer the only thing they didnt cover in the end was for the vet to come out & give him peace. They even sent a cheque after his passing towards the cost of another dog ( which we havent done ) cant rate them enough. I've got my girls insured with pinnacle who are really bad !!!!

Just done mine and the quote appears to be with the 15% discount.  On the free 3 months, I couldn't see anything about no price increase!  Found this bit though

*3 month free terms and conditions:
Offer available to new customers only who buy between 9th September and 23rd February 2008 and elect to pay by Direct Debit.
When you renew the policy next year the first 3 months of cover will be provided free of charge. Your monthly payments will begin after this initial 3 months free period.
The customer may elect to cancel the cover at the end of the free 3 months term without any cancellation charge
