Hello all, i found this forum and i am very pleased to see how helpful everyone is! Thank god for that because i have a biig problem. I bought a 1yr old toy breed (breed edited ref TOS) female to keep my 4yr old male. Well I did not think he was capable but he got her pregnant, and as happy as i am, i am also scared. I have heard that (breed edited) sometimes die during whelping because they are much too small. My bitch is itty bitty (4 lbs) and my stud is 5lbs. So they are both very small. She is about 1 month and two weeks into her pregnancy and she began spotting what looked like mucus and blood yesterday, very little but enough for me to worry. Any suggestions?
She has just over 2 weeks left then. WHY didnt you think he was capable? he has a penis and his testicles. Why didnt you keep them apart during her season? Did you even know she was in season? I have no idea if thats a good size or even a safe size to have puppies but someone else will. Your very irresponsible. When did you find out she was pregnant? did you not think to get it aborted to save you the worry that she might die because she is so small, insted of leaving it until later? I doubt you will get pleasent responses on this topic.
Louise
Im sure i wont if everyone is as rude as you are. I didnt think it was possible for my stud because he has always been a little gay, he was never into female dogs, even while in heat, he has always been attracted more to male dogs than to female dogs. I didnt keep them seperated because i wanted him to have a companion. When i bought my bitch i bought her out of pity for her because she lived in an unhealthy enviroment, and was surrounded by other pets and was ignored. She had never visited a vet, so once i bought her i gave her the works, and voila she got pregnant. I wasnt aware she was able to breed yet, as i have always been a cat owner and she didnt show the immediate signs of heat. She has seen the vet and she is only bearing two pups.

:-o I'll say nowt...it would only get me banned! I think we called it sfb in A&E!!! or fubar!!!

She is 2lbs lighter than I like in a breeding bitch. Highly likely that she will need a C-section, you may find that your vet may want to spay at the same time. This breed often doesn't go full term, so I would advise you to watch her like a hawk from now until she starts. The breed is known for inertia, and as a novice, it's something that you wouldn't recognise, but it is dangerous, so you need to be on your toes, or you could lose her.

Firstly, please dont type in bold, secondly, lets get serious. This has happened and needs addressing now. I suggest that your girl is monitored very closely by your vet. Its not a situation that I would like to find myself in. Most people on this forum are very serious regarding the health, welfare and breeding of sound and healthy puppies. Have you even considered what you will do with the pups and the care that they will need. Seriously, get your girl to the vets and buy the book of the bitch, it will help you through this process and more importantly give you helpful tips and advise on keeping a bitch. Good luck to your girl for a healthy whelp.

Go to the vet & book an elective C section & spay PDQ

Louise isn't being rude ;)
she's being honest.
Can't imagine why you thought he wasn't capable. He has the equipment and he's a dog, he's going to use it on the first available, willing bitch.
ETA - You have been given sound advice re vet attention.

GAY?!?! hes a dog dont humanise him lol. This is his companion in the house his girlfriend he wont be shy around a bitch he knows. You should have kept them seperate when she was in SEASON not ALL the time. You should have gotten her spayed whe you got her then. Heat isnt immediate is a 3 week thing. He wouldnt have been attracted to male dogs, he would mount them to show his dominance or be dominant towards them. Voila isnt quite how it happens but you have been irresponsible. Seasons happen approx every 6 months starting for around 6 months of age and then approx every six months after that. Why do people get dogs when they havnt got a clue. Its like buying a car when you dont know how you run it.
Are you going to terminate the pregnancy or risk her dying because she is too small. What did the vet suggest
Louise
Please do buy the book of the bitch it will help you understand and teach you some things you desperatly need to know

I think brick and wall come into it Louise...no chance...
Oh i am watching her like white on rice! I apologize for being rude in my above comment but i am appalled that i have already been called a irresponsible owner. She was 4lbs when she got pregnant, i just weighed her right now to be certain and she 6.6lbs.
IM appalled you have allowed this to happen!! and you ARE and irresponsible owner. Whats not irresponsible about allowed your bitch that you have rescued thats too young and too small to give birth to get pregnant?

I must say, a serious topic I know but the Gay thing just took the biscuit!! My God I now know where my mum went wrong (or right) with me!! ;) Please get this sorted now for the health of your girl!! Nobody is being rude but looking back you must see that your actions were irresponsible at the very least.

> i have always been a cat owner and she didnt show the immediate signs of heat
Bitches behave NOTHING like queens in heat!! They don't roll around and call, they are totally different and there is usually
visible signs that she is in season.
Yes I have taken her to the vet and i apologize for posting the weight she was when she wasnt preggers. She is 6.6 and her vet says she is fine! I was posting to get advice on her spotting, i wasnt asking for advice on how to be a pet owner! You are too quick to jump down someones knickers, assuming i havent bought the books, read up, and taken her in.

I think advice on being a DECENT pet owner was the first thing you needed!

And so it goes on
and I for one, am heartily sick of it.
Poor little dog.

I bet this person realises the consequences now! Things like this seem to happen unfortunately and this lady has come on here for advice not a slating.
I'm most impressed by the comments by Jean and Gary as they are more helpful than judgmental, yes this lady has made a mistake but she is asking for help...........don't you think

Sorry but I dont think that there is any point in continuing this thread, If you are worried about her spotting, why have you not spoken to the vet about it?

How would you describe your behaviour? Why are you posting everything in bold?
My vet gave me the option of spaying her as soon as shes whelped and i am going to. Thanks

You don't think it's the 'trip trap patter of cloven feet' do you??

They do and responsible owners take their bitch off to the vet immediately to prevent a misalliance continuing.

Here we go again. If your girl whelps naturally I see no point in a spay immediately after whelping. She will have been under alot of stress with giving birth, her system will need to recover before another major trauma!!
I didnt think it was possible for my stud because he has always been a little gay, he was never into female dogs, even while in heat, he has always been attracted more to male dogs than to female dogs. He's probably a male dog that knows what he is doing. A bitch is in season for 3 weeks, and she is only receptive to mating for a few days to a week of this time -it isn't like cats where they can be mated anytime during the call. The in season bitches he's met before probably were not on the right days.
I didnt keep them seperated because i wanted him to have a companion. Then you must get one or both of them neutered. There is no other alternative if you do not want them separated. As it is, chances are she will not allow the male dog anywhere near her when she has pups (bitches need to be on their own then) so you may now have to separate them for many weeks instead of just for 3-4.
I wasnt aware she was able to breed yet, as i have always been a cat owner and she didnt show the immediate signs of heat. You can't compare cats and dogs as they are absolutely nothing like each other when it comes to breeding. It's not uncommon for early seasons to be without bleeding, so it's vital to keep an eye on the bitch from 6 months of age onwards.
She has seen the vet and she is only bearing two pups.As a small breed, this is probably very likely -just be aware of the fact that vets are notorious for getting number of pups wrong. I had one last year tell me my bitch would have 1 or 2 puppies and she had ten. Obviously you won't face THAT, but just be aware that two is not definite.

Just wondering why it is bothering some that she is writing in bold? Her thread has been like that from the start, maybe she has a key stuck on on her key board,Idon't think anything is meant by it?

wonderful advice Marianne, this is more like it! These sort of comments are why I would say to people 'log on to Champdogs, you will find help on there!'
:)
Thank you, and i understand that this is a very serious matter, and i have taken it very seriously! As soon as I saw the signs of pregnancy I took my pup to the vet. I did not know this thread would be insulting instead of relieving.

For a misalliance injection? Did it fail?

Trish, to be fair, you have to realise that some of us have been members for many years. There are certain types of behaviour that is just not polite in chat forums, one is writing/typing in
BOLD and the other is writing/typing in
CAPITAL LETTERS it's seen as a sort of shouting, if you will? It is also possible that some members of the board have sight issues that make seeing bold type impossible to discern, that is why it's an issue. HTH, Dawn
i agree with Trish, and i thank you. But I would like to tell the rude posters that they have successfully chased me off of this site.

Most people on here seem to be very knowledgeable! It just seems that some word advice better than others. and it's a shame that a dog could suffer because someone doesn't want to ask a question for fear of reprisal!

Are you a cheer leader hun? ;-)
Sorry, I've gone back to my former sarcastic self and it just won't do will it!
newfie i dont understand why bold bothers you here, i have seen you on different sites and it doesnt bother you there. Posters will type as they type and not give a reason as to why !

I think that if you look through some of the more colourful termanology, you will find alot of very sound advice
it's a shame that a dog could suffer because someone doesn't want to ask a question for fear of reprisal!
Dogs suffer because of owners' behaviour, not because responsible breeders choose not to encourage irresponsible breeding. :(

LouiseDDB you will catch more flies with honey than with vinegar -and I can remember YOU being the person saying everyone was having a go at you when your breeding practices were questioned. The OP has made a big mistake, but they're not standing up and trying to say they did right, so why not try to educate instead of blaming.

well I did wonder what was wrong with it, also am getting better with abbreviations, what does hrh stand for? Or is it the obvious?Doh :)

sorry HTH?

Please now pay attention to your girl, keep and eye on her and read some books for the tell tale obvious signs of distress. I wouldnt have the spay with the c section id leave it for a while, no doubt she will be exhausted and you dont want cardiac arrest on your hands.
Louise

I don't think you have seen me on other sites my dear! And, for the record it wasn't me that mentioned it! Further to the record, I have already stated WHY it is unhelpful, mainly for our members with VISION issue(that means sight issues, meaning their eyes have trouble!) OK? I would love you to name where I go, cos I dont go anywhere else, except a private forum that keeps the idiots out...
Hi, i have read this thread going fast and furiously attacking this girl who has yes made a very big mistake. But now, she asked a question that no one answered! She has now left, not knowing if that mucus is dangerous or normal and that poor dog will be who suffers!
I understand the anger but people get chased away. There are ways of saying we dont agree but this is the answer......where will she go now or do you not care about this poor dogs situation? You could have made a difference. If you havent got time to give advice dont reply at all surely.
Just my opinion.....

Well im def not there then newfie. ;)
she may not realise that newfie is a breed and other people might have it infront of their names.

I think I'll away and boil me heed now...:-o

Sorry but I think I stated get the girl to the vets! Its the only way of a true diagnosis.

Actually I don't have any breeding practises if you are refering to me because i haven't bred, again just asking questions, after all that's what keeps this forum going. So shoot me?
No I'm not a cheer leader, but always look at both sides i'm really just a passer by but don't want to join in the stoning!
The woman was asking for advice and only a few of you knowledgeable ones have actually answered her question!

That is such a shame. There is often good advice to be had on this board, but unfortunately it can also sometimes bring out the worst in people.
I hope your bitch has her puppies successfully, all the best.
