Could I ask what 'showed well' as a final comment means?
Dog in question was alone in class, positive comments apart from the 'naughty puppy' reference were made.
So I wondered if we should read that as a handling comment or a positive for future competion.

Well I would mean the dog showed it's self off well but considering the naughty puppy remark I am not too sure.
I would take that as meaning your puppy was generally well behaved and did what is expected of a show dog. Moved without jumping about, stood nicely for you without fidgeting too much, etc etc. I would take that as a positive comment as an allrounder once used it in a critique on my boy and i know myself he showed really well that particular day.
Hope that helps.

oh, didnt notice the naughty puppy bit!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of puppies misbehave in the ring (and some not so young puppies ;-) ) but the judges can still see that they can move well, if not all the time. So long as they can see that the pup was moving well some of the time, and that it was not a poor specimen of the breed, then I would think they would forgive the naughty bit. :-)
