Did anyone watch this on BBC One last night? I thought Julie Walters was amazing, her acting was brilliant. I had tears in my eyes most of the way through it & had a real good cry when I found out it was based on true events at the end. Those poor children having to deal with that horrible disease inflicted on both parents. It was really difficult to watch in parts but I'm glad I did, it was a real eye opener into a very difficult subject.

Thought it was a fantastic production. Very sad in most parts but brilliant.
Yes i watched it with my husband,, both of us had tears running down our faces, i thought it was a very powerfull drama and makes you take a step backwards and realise how lucky we are BUT also what does the future holds for us all, i truly belive that the law must change in this country to give us the option of euthenasia, i work in a hospital and have seen many many heartbreaking things, it a very difficult road to take but one that i think must be avalible if wanted. Well done Julie Walters for a fantastic performance.
I have recorded it to see tonight its a diffecult subject so im pleased its been dealt with on the BBC

I started to watch it not knowing what i was actually watching. I got so hooked into it that i couldn't leave the room. It appeared to be covered very well and it really does make you think about options in the future.

I've recorded it to watch it...very sad though...

I did want to watch this.
As had mentioned before I kno somebody who took this route at the end of last year. The only other person involved was her middle son. I was horrified and am pretty much still in shock over it!
Karen :(

I had read about this and fully intended to watch the programme (was sure it would be well done if Julie Walters had the main role) but in the end didn't feel in a strong enough frame of mind to watch it. It is such a very emotional and difficult subject. I am sure it is valuable to raise awareness and discussion as it needs to be addressed, perhaps the programme will be repeated and I'll make myself watch it.

Amazing actress, to go from Mama Mia to this shows just how versatile Julie Walters is.
The programme was very good, so sad, cried my eyes out. such a shame that we live in a country that would not allow an animal to suffer we do allow humans to.
I remember many years ago I had a friend who dog had a terminal illnes. I, at the same time had a friend with a terminal illness. My friend had to suffer greatly, but my friend with the dog was able to give her peace. Makes you think.
I have a living will which my family & doctos know of. So I pray I will never have to be locked in a body, unable to help myself.

i caught the last half hour of this and thought it very good. i did feel however the lady wasnt ready to die. she still was mentally fit, able to share a joke with her family and could get about. i wasnt sure if she had to go to switzerland before she got to the stage she was to ill to travel and it could be argued she wasnt mentally well enough to make the right choice. maybe she didnt want to get to that stage as i say i missed the start.
does make you think though. my grandad suffered for many years, dont get me wrong the drs and hospital were brilliant and we have no complaint about his care. its just the the last two years of his life were painfull and miserable. he actually said to me if i was one of your dogs you would put me down wouldnt you,
my grandma and her sisters very much believed were theres life theres hope and there is no way they would of agreed with helping him along.

It was so sad, but having wath people die of a terminal ilness could understand why. I never knew it was based on a true story though until it went off. Absolutely brilliant.

She was starting to detriorate quite quickly & I think she did have to be fit enough to travel & the people at the clinic had to be certain she was of sound mind.

Right! I'm going to hunt down the people who said this was good....you've ruined my night off. I've spent the last 90 minutes in tears, I've ran out of tissues and moved onto loo roll!
It was very good though :-)

oh and for anyone that hasn't seen it, and has a ready supply of tissues on hand then you can download it on bbc iplayer :-)
Thats the bit that started me off when she said goodbye to Flora her cat...
