Ive just put national geo wild on, and its all about designer dogs, and they are talking about the Caucasion mountain dogs as being the "new" guard dog thats sweeping america. they are even doing basic training on 3 week old puppies, wow they are massive,

omg. now they are talking about a breed called "ALASKAN CLEKAI" (think thats incorrect spelling), this breed takes 4 different breeds, its all so wrong in my opinion,

Klee Klai.  I am not sure but I think this one may be a serious attempt at creating a breed rather than just producing first crosses endlessly.

There has been a federation or some such thing in UK for Klee Kai

It was an attempt to create a new breed and the person responsible used fairly non PC methods for today to ensure the dogs that were breed on from carried the traits she wanted . However I think these have relaxed quite alot now.

ive seen this program the caucasians are just scary when that one drags that man across the grass towards to road is just dangerous and the one jumping up on the fence

the same stopping power as a gun thats a terrible way to advertise dogs

stupid ppl breeding dangerous dogs

My god thats a scary looking beast, can you imagine one of those in the wrong hands :-(
- By Merlot [no] Date 26.01.09 09:00 UTC
There is a litter of these advertised on another web page...in UK   not a dog for your average family I would think!!
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/caucasianowtcharka.htm (This is not the litter page, but info about the breed)
They have some pretty scary tendancies.
Another example of the wrong place for this tyoe of dog..best suited to a remote farming/gaurding need, not a dog for well populated areas.

I seriously hope the breed never takes off here otherwise the yobbo element will be very attracted to it given it's temperament, what a terrifying prospect that would be :-(

They look a bit like an Elkhound crossed with a Leonberger/Tibetan Mastiff.

I have seen these dogs in Poland, and they are not particularly scary looking, though as a flock guard, with extremely strong guarding instincts are not really suited to constrained modern urban living.

Mmmm interesting looking!
Looks like it has a mane!

I'm sure they are excellent in their own country doing the job they were bred for but my worry would be that the yobbos would get them try to harness and increase the extreme guarding temperament they are born with for illegal purposes, look what's happened to the Staffy now, a very old and excellent breed now greatly feared because of some of the horrible owners the dogs have, always a real disaster when a breed gets to popular with the wrong kind of people.

I didn't see the show but have seen the breed before and I think they are visually magnificent.  That said they are not a breed suited to any domestic lifestyle - they are a true guard and temperamentally too primitive to mould their basic instincts into a family pet.

Let's hope and pray they do not find their way into the wrong hands.

Saw one last summer, he was about 7 months and bigger than a couple of Leo bitches that were there, Georgous looking but BIG and the Hair - think of the shedding season
