Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Joint or shared affix
- By Ells-Bells [gb] Date 23.01.09 12:04 UTC
Apologies in advance if I could have continued on other thread re affixes.

Does anyone here have a joint or shared affix?  If so does it work well or cause problems etc.  Also can you share your affix with more than one person.
- By Teri Date 23.01.09 12:18 UTC
Many people have shared affixes - for many it will work well, others less so.  IMO it depends what the parties want it for (excluding spouses, children, relatives here).

If one party already has an established affix I'd suggest that if going into partnership a separate affix is taken out with the parties, otherwise the existing affix holder may find that the new partner(s) wants to go down a different route re breeding etc.  Equally there could be financial problems down the line if one (or more) parties is less able than others to finance ventures under the joint affix.

Personally I wouldn't have one (apart from with my OH or daughter) for these and other reasons due to situations going very wrong for others who have held joint affixes.

If, for eg, Miss A had her own affix (whimsical) and Miss B another (fairyland), were they to decide to jointly breed a litter together they could either create and new affix specifically for that purpose (whimsiland :-D ) or register half the litter each to their own affix - in which case each would need to be as a suffix to the KC name.  i.e. 'white lady being whimsical' and 'white knight guarding fairyland'  (awful names of course but for demonstration purposes only!!!!)

HTH, Teri

I can't see how your suggestion of registering half of a litter to each affix could work?  It would mean both people saying separately that they had ownership/loan of the dam at the same time?  Don't think the KC would like that!

Has been done many times over many years ridgielover, both with stock co-owned/co-bred and loaned or imported animals :)

> whimsical

> fairyland

> whimsiland

Can see what kind of mood you've woken up in :-)

Back to the OP's question..
I wouldn't share my affix with anyone (except hubby... if he shared my ambitions and goals..which he doesn't...he's the the archetypal 'pet person' who constantly suggests I take up painting instead :-))

I knew a couple who registered all the dog puppies in a litter to one affix and all the bitches to their other one (both owned jointly).

While we're on the subject on affix's....sorry to take it off topic....where did you all get your ideas from when registering yours? Im just clueless as to what line to go down?! Any suggestions?

I grew up largely in Cornwell where "Tre" generally means place or home so I used that followed by a shortening of the names of the two bitches I had at that time.

"Has been done many times over many years ridgielover, both with stock co-owned/co-bred and loaned or imported animals"

Well, that seems really strange to me :)

Hi silversgal,

I took mine from a map of the country of origin for my breed :)  I see you mention GSP in your signature line, if it's for that breed then why not look at an intricate map of Germany or a German word you feel best describes your ideal - although I'd advise no obvious locations, words or names as these are likely to be already taken or declined.

HTH,
regards, Teri :)

The KC aren't nearly as fickle as some would think ;)

My friend and I have an affix each plus a jointly owned affix for a particular bitch bloodline that goes back over 60 years with the originator still around to guide us on which way to go with 'her' bloodline.

After 1 more litter each in our own affix we plan to give them up and use the new affix alone as all our dogs will be from that bitch line. Friend has made 8 champions up in 20 yrs with her affix I've never made a UK champion with mine in 12 yrs, purely because there's yet to be a tailed UK champion, but I do have overseas homegrown title kids in Europe.  Many in the breed were disgusted but as we'd spoken with the line originator and another invovled in her affix before we did anything she was very pleased to see someone was willing to carry on her work using part of her own affix and surname so we had permission from both affix owners to go ahead.

I do remember that. My affix is the name of a Dutch Warmblood horse I owned in the 70's.

Not too sure about having a seperate joint affix - but can see the positive points about it and so less problematic.  There don't seem to be many CD's who appear to have a shared affix for personal opinions.
- By newfiedreams Date 23.01.09 18:46 UTC
I've seen a couple of shared affix owners hit the wall and turn it all nasty! It's not something I would recomend or consider! Mine comes from where we're going to live in the Aegean and also Blue being the colour of the Ocean and Yorkies are supposed to be Steel Blue and tan!

My mum and I share our affix.  I have the Spanish Water Dogs and my mum the Pomeranian's.  The only downside that I have is that if I am judging, my mum is not allowed to show her breed at the shows, even though we don't live together etc. and my interest now is really the Spanish.

Such a shame as my mum loves coming with me and sometimes wants to show the Pom's but can't.
