Can anyone help me with this problem which my lab has.  She has developed a swelling on the inside ear. It is very swollen at the moment and I am not sure if it is clear inside or blood.  Any help much appreciated.

I think you need a Vet hun, ear problems can be incredibley painful and sounds like it needs a proper examination...no one can possibly diagnose a problem over t'internet like that! Sorry, I'm almost sure everyone will agree....hope it's ok...

Thank you for your reply.  The swelling is on the inside of her ear flap.  Not actually in the ear channel itself.  The comments here seem to imply it is an ear infection caused by shaking of the head.

Possibly a haematoma? If so it will be full of blood and she needs a vet soon.

sounds like an aural haematoma, needs a vet check, several different treatments for this, depends on severity and your vet.

Definitely sounds like a haematoma but she might have an infection that's been causing her to shake her head hence the haematoma. My Gordon setter had one last year. Its definitely one for the vet where they will be able to deal with it. It takes a while to heal and might fill up again but its not one for dealing with on your own. I would get it seen to before the weekend and she will soon be on the mend.

On the ear FLAP is different and the others have given you excellent advice.

Just for your information, the ear flap is not the inner ear...

Definitely sounds like a haematoma you need to get her to the vets and have it drained.  One of mine had one a couple of years ago, thankfully it didn't return.  He was such a good lad, just stood there whilst the vet drained all the blood out.

You need to get it drained properly or it can result in a mishappen ear.
