Is it possible to AI a bitch on heat? If so what is the procedure - how can it be done. The reason I am asking this question is that the owner of the bitch in question is having a great deal of difficultly getting her to keep still for the dog and even though she seems very keen initially, as soon as he "gets on" she jumps away. This is the second season she has been tried but we are having the same problems this time as we did last time, therefore we were wondering it is possible to collect his sperm and put it in her, thus cutting out the part she obviously finds difficult to cope with.

They changed the rules John ;-) but you do have to get permission and they only allow it in certain circumstances. Then it takes months and months and months.

I always understood that if you 'forced' a bitch to conceive, the chances were that she would have problems whelping, probably because there was increased risk of obstruction.
