We have a 2 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We have had her since the Summer. Before this she lived with her breeder. We are not keen on putting her in a boarding kennel as she is very much a family dog and has people round her most of the time. In the Summer she stayed with a local breeder who had agreed to have her for us again when we go away at New Year. Sadly this arrangement has fallen through as the lady is unwell. Sending her to stay with her own breeder is not possible because of the distance involved. Would members recommend using the services of a dog sitter who would look after our dog in his/her own home ? How would we find a reputable dog sitter ? Would an agency (recommendations if possible, please) or an ad in the local post office be a good idea ?

Thank you. Jackie.

If you can find a high quality boarding kennel then I think that is the best bet. Professional dog sitters are very few and far between and with the best will in the world a relative or a friend who is not used to dogs are not a good option. :)

Even sending her over to stay with a close friend's house can be more stressful and difficult than placing her in a good boarding kennel. I learned that one from sad experience :(
good luck,

As a dog sitter myself most of the dogs that come to stay with me are through the vets.
Phone around all the local vets and ask them as they may be able to recommend someone.
I have never had any feedback from anyone who has used an agency ..........
Whereabouts do you live????????
