I have been using panacur and now Drontal Puppy on my labrador puppie(4 differant litters) each time the pups have lost weight and gone off of their food one litter I had to take to the vet for antibiotics, I really do think the worming products are making the pups ill, has this happenend to anyone else, if so which wormer would be more suitable. Thanks I would be grateful of any advice ASASP

hello sheila
I think I replied to your post as guest !!!!
when you say it puts them of their food is this a long time after treating them?
or trying to feed them straight after wards

The day after worming them they go off of their food which lasts for about 5 days I change their diet to tempt them but it is really hard work getting them interested, I have got to the point where I dread worming them as I know they are going to lose weight in that period.

I don't know:( I used panacur with my GSD and was told due to the strength better slightly less than more- she always went off her food too but I can't say that she lost any weight? I now use Dorjontal and no side effects? Maybe someone else could help further:) Good Luck:)

If you click on search, then put Panacur in the word or phrase box, and then in posted my handle (Brainless) then click on Woring coming up in the list of results. There are others links also. You will find my experiences, and what I now do!

Since having problems with Panacur I have used Strongid paste for dogs, which I ordered through my vet. It only needs to be given once , each fortnight, rather than 3 days running, and I am very pleased with it. I used it on 3 week puppies and they continues to grow on without a check or tummy upset, being done 3 times before 8 weeks.

i just just drotal on my litter and if any thing was to go wrong this was the time beacuse my puppies have kennel cough,i waited 31/2 week to do it and no problam with it

I have used Drontal Puppy suspension on both my breeds(large&small) to good effect and never had a problem.I always weigh each puppy and dose accordingly.I wouldn`t consider using a wormer that has to be given over a period of time,a one off dose at fortnightly intervals to me is better for the pups and dosen`t upset their tummies, they don`t even miss a meal
