See what i mean by my previous post there but for the grace of god go i
.My friend has phoned this evening who is in a different breed to me and she has a ten and half month old bitch puppy who has just had her first season
She thought she looked over swollen at the backend and took her to the vet who said she had a prolapse ,so she took her in this morning and the vet has put stitches in for 2 weeks when she has to take her back to have them out .The vet said he had not seen it in one so young
So i am asking on her behalf has anyone else come across this problem and if so what was the outcome  etc

This may not be what you mean but ...... I have seen a condition ,I think it is called vaginal hypoplasia? As the season progresses a swelling like an egg appears at the opening of the vagina, which looks quite serious. It is apparently hormonal and subsides as the season wanes.  It is not recommended that such bitches be bred as there is a danger of damage at the mating, though once in whelp the swelling does not grow as different hormones are involved. I understand that this condition can settle in future seasons  or may not in some cases.

> vaginal hypoplasia?

We had a bitch with this (OES) many years ago. She got worse as she got older and we had her spayed at age three. I have to say, she had other skin/auto-immune problems too. Shame cause she was beautiful.

I've had a couple of mastiffs with this, sometimes they occur at the first season, its usually when the bitch is a bit older. We had one years ago (late 70's)who was mated and it was noticed afterwards it went back, no sign of it until a couple of days before she whelped and the size grew and grew, the vet took a sample of fluid which I think caused more problems, we had decided it would be best to have a C section, however it burst (that was some awful smell) she whelped 9 puppies and raised them all. We had her speyed after her next season as it appeared again. I have a photograph of this 'thing' .
The only bitch I have now, had a small one and erratic seasons, so she was speyed.
