My friend's GSD with EPI is now being fed with Chappie plus raw liquidised pig pancreas, and it is doing a great job :)

The problem we have is how to increase her weight, to gain lost ground. Chappie is very low in protein, but this is what she needs. She cannot digest large amounts of fat, protein or carbs, and needs low fibre too. So it is a tricky one. She is having coconut oil which is an easier to digest fat added to her food too.

I guess my question is, is Chappie really just 5% protein, as stated on the tin, or is there a calculation that applies (as in dry food) that gives a different picture.  We are gradually increasing the amount of Chappie, but have to be very careful indeed. If anyone has any other ideas about a food that we may be able to add I would be eager to hear it. Thanks everyone

To compare a wet food to dry you ahve to convert to dry matter ratio.

For example a 26% protein dry food has about 10% moisture,a dn yoru 5% chappie probably has 80% moisture.

Take away the moisture from both and then compare.  You will be surprised, the Chappie then has 25% of it's dry matter protein (5 divided by 20 times 100) and the Dry would be 26 divided by 90 times 100.

Thank you Brainless, I thought something like this applied.

Wow, it does hurt my head though, I'm not a maths person :)

But, using your calculation, the chappie is 25% and the dry 28.9%?  Yes, I am surprised, but pleasantly!

The dry Chappie Complete is 20% protein, according to the bag.

We were converting the tinnned to dry matter.

Thanks Missy, I will suggest adding some raw minced chicken breast :)
