Some years ago I had an Affenpinscher do this, he passed it the next day and was none the worse for it, never did it again though thankfully :-)

oh dear! silly pup. keep an eye on him, he may or may not pass it, or vomit it back up, fingers crossed he does. make sure he only poos in front of you for next few days so you can be sure. if he has any vomiting or diaorrhoea over next week or so, take him to vets, it may be blocking. i have seen dogs needing surgery to remove socks :(  so hopefully he doesnt need that.

Well hopefully he may pass it, but if nothing soon i would take him to the vet and they will give him something to make him sick.
We had a golden who was an expert at swallowing socks...she had to go to the vets and be given something to make her sick and up came the smelly sock. HTH

First time something similar happened to us (our pup swallowed a rope) we went haring off to the vet's who gave her a small handful of washing soda to eat. Very scientific we thought, but back came the rope and no harm done. Since then we have kept a supply of washing soda in the kitchen, have used it twice more with the same result. Friends with different vets have either had to have an injection which seems to make the dogs groggy as well as sick, (one Springer, two socks - different times :-(  ) or in one case a big operation to remove a towel from their dog's gut - at a cost of £2000+. If you're worried, phone your surgery for advice.

Good luck.

I had to use the soda trick on several occasions with one of mine. Works very well if it is done soon after swallowing materials, like socks or dishcloths.

Best wishes.

Sons husky is an avid sock eater, just socks, something to do with his smelly feet?

When one of my American Cockers swallowed a large hair scrunchie I didn't want to risk nature failing to to take it's course. So off we went to the Vet, who gave Apomorph, two doses in the end, and within moments, up it came, very very soggy and stinky. The Vet asked me if I wanted it back. I didn't .

Thank you everyone,

Todd puked up the sock this morning thank god, and we all made a joke about it in the end,  couldnt sleep all night for worrying about it.  Kids have been warned keep yer smelly socks off the floor lol.  Thankfully it was only a trainer sock and not a footie sock thanks again everyone

todd,
I have one that swallows socks, has done since a pup. Still will walk past a little one, take the sock off in passing and swallow it before you can stop him. We just give him dried food it shoves it through him, it comes out again. He swallows tissues as well, £10 and £20  notes also. When ever he sees them. We try to just keep things out of his way he is 7years old now.

Glad it all worked out OK. Dogs - don't you just love 'em!

I have one who liked pop socks (like tights but ankle high) - I've had to "help" him get it out the other end when it got stuck which involves lightly pulling as he is pushing. Nasty.

Glad your boy puked it up!

Glad he vomited it back safely - surgical removal of impacted foreign bodies (socks or stockings or dish cloths as well as stones, whole walnuts, corn cobs or bits of toy) is a remarkably common operation for vets. Even so some owners leave it too late and the dog sadly doesn't make it, so make sure that all such things are kept well out of his reach. Next time he might not be so co-operative.
