Have been to my local butchers and he has kindly given me fresh raw bones (no charge - yipee) which my girl is loving - thinks she has won the lottery!

Just wondering how long do you keep the bone 'going for'?  We're on day 2, I've given it to her for an hour or so a couple of times and kept it in the fridge in between.

I give my dog marrow bones and don't take them off her at all...she will just keep going back to them even after a couple of weeks...they go into the bin when i cant bear looking at them anymore and then i buy fresh ones.

I think you can keep them "going" indefinatly.

More or less forever......Unless they look chipped or in danger of giving away splinterlike parts.
We have bones laying around that are at least a year old, they still get some attention now and then ;-)

Thanks guys - I guess being on day 3 of her bone is pretty much early days then!!  Ha ha...

I stick them in the container with the kibble for a few weeks when they start being ignored, and it seems to make it all the more exciting when they come out again.Of course the little girl tries to get in first by burying them in her favourite bit of the garden then digs them up weeks late too which is grim.

Yep Anne thats what happens to our bones. They get buried dug up re chewed bought indoors (yuk) thrown outside rapidly and finally when I can stand it no longer , into the bin!!

I throw out there old bones once a week ,as they get fresh ones every week from my kind butcher, they had vension back legs for 2 weeks, which they adored.
