Some bitches do eat the same day -my latest certainly did so don't rely on that as a definite sign. The scratching can go on for up to 36 hours or much less, it depends.
- By scottishwomble [gb] Date 14.01.09 11:32 UTC
Mines ate the day she delivered and she ate halfway through which made us think she was finished :) she ate before during and after labour and ate about a whole tin of chicken soup. She was hardly eating anything before then though and really went off her fod for the first few weeks after she had had them. She is only just starting to put a little weight back on now and is eating normally again and the pups are 7 weeks.
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 14.01.09 11:39 UTC
That blew my theory out the water then! she isnt eating much, just had a couple of mouthfuls.

Is sleeping really deeply then fidgeting, digging and forcing herself onto my lap.........more waiting
- By Carrington Date 14.01.09 12:05 UTC
My bitch doesn't eat at all the morning of whelping and throughout the day, many others don't, it is pretty normal to be that way, however, some bitches do eat, so I would say that is 80% of the time. The one thing you can say is she is close now. :-)
- By Papillon [gb] Date 14.01.09 12:15 UTC
Most generally dont eat on the day of labour but I have one girl that ate a couple of bites on her delivery day but she is a real foodie at the best of times :-)
- By Blue Date 14.01.09 12:38 UTC
I have had some that want to eat between pups too :-)
- By echo [gb] Date 14.01.09 12:38 UTC Edited 14.01.09 12:42 UTC
just re read the thread, and hang on in there girl

I see your breeder is helping you and I dont know anything about your breed but do they whelp easily? Did mum or any relatives had a c section?  Keep an eye on the babies still wriggling not all stop before the birth but some do.

When she goes into labour make a note of how far appart contracions are, you will see her sides squeazing and she may stretch her head up.  When she starts to push also make a note of that time and dont let her push for too long, your breeder will tell you how long is too long. If you are paying for the call Im sure your breeder wont mind hanging on the phone 'till you get the first one out.

Every day is a bonus but sounds like the next 48 hours will be it.
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 14.01.09 12:48 UTC
Thanks Echo,

I am fortunate to have a good mentor. My girls mum and sister had C-sections mainly due to exhaustion. My girl is extremely fit and lean so i am still hoping she will try to push!

I was quite anxious this morning, bearing in mind she slept on the sofa with me, her shape had changed so much this morning that i was panicing that she had left them somewhere cause she seemed so loose and empty. I really felt her over and was hard pushed to get movement but got the odd twitch so they are still in there but not as active as they were. They were very close to the surface but seem deeper inside today.

She had done nothing today except sleep and move between sleeping places. In her whelping box now snoring, very quiet.

Can you believe my husband is on a course for 3 days so have had to get the rest of the family on standby thanks to the C-section risk and have a 6 year old.

anyway its temperature time.....
- By echo [gb] Date 14.01.09 12:51 UTC
Sounds like the babies are moving toward the birth cannal.  They sometimes drop away from the waist and hang underneath a bit more. Then they will be moving up and backwards toward the tail to be born.  Tell you mentor what you just told us and I think she may confirm that.
- By Papillon [gb] Date 14.01.09 12:54 UTC
Getting quite exciting now, I hope its soon, will keep looking in for more developments :-)
- By Zajak [gb] Date 14.01.09 15:58 UTC
My bitch's abdomen really "dropped" 7 days before due date and I was a touch worried in case they came too early.  She really looked ready to have them there and then, I know what your husband meant about her looking narrower at the top. However, she didn't have hers for another 4 days making her 3 days early in the end.  She had her first pup about 20 hours after the temp drop.  Her mum had her pups 5 days early so 3 days early wasn't a surprise.  Good luck, sounds like she could be any day!  My bitch ate on the day of labour with her first litter but not her 2nd.  Her mum had been on and off her food all the way through her pregnancy so it was difficult to tell with her.
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 14.01.09 16:21 UTC
well she hasnt moved from her bed all day. she has serious zzzzz coming out of her head!
Perhaps she storing her energy up for a reason.........who know cause i sure dont!!!
- By STARRYEYES Date 14.01.09 17:57 UTC
some will eat a little my girl didnt really go off her food at all.
- By minimom [gb] Date 14.01.09 18:38 UTC
be warned they can eat right upto producing the first puppy, then throw it all back at you.
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 14.01.09 18:46 UTC
Oh glorious, how lovely!
I am convinced tonight is not the night. She has eaten a meal and is pottering around with a toy at the minute. But.......the sofa for me again, sooooo tired! Have you ever tried to sleep with a snoring pug in your ear!!!!
- By pugnut [gb] Date 14.01.09 19:46 UTC
Goodluck, hopefully she'll hang on a couple more days, so the bubs get extra time to 'bake' ;-).

I can sympathise with the snoring. I like to have mine up in the bedroom for the first few weeks. I think my OH has grounds for divorce on that one lol! Ive been left alone in bed many a night whilst OH camps out on the sofa to get away from the snoring (the dogs, not me! ;-) :-P)
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 14.01.09 20:03 UTC
haha pugnut!

I seem to have got it wrong, i am on the sofa with the dog while husband sleeps soundly upstairs! Mind why does she have to sleep ON me and with that came the cat who insists of snuggling into the dog so i was a the bottom of a big furry heap!

Her tummy is wriggling away tonight but still zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
- By lys [gb] Date 14.01.09 20:48 UTC

- By echo [gb] Date 14.01.09 22:17 UTC
My Beardie always wanted to sleep on me after her babies were born now that was a bit erm smelly and wet - until day 4 when I bathed her anyway LOL
- By PippaJ [gb] Date 15.01.09 07:41 UTC
any news any news??
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 15.01.09 08:04 UTC
Hi, Well what an anti climax! Her tummy has dropped which clearly has made her more comfortable. She spent all day yesterday sleeping really deeply and last night. She hasnt really been sleeping the last couple of weeks. She is eating all of a sudden like a horse!

Today her temp is 37.7 it was 37.1 last night. She is discharging a clear liquid today though. Does anyone know what that can be? It is slimey like usual.

So, i think she could now go a few more days.......who knows!

thanks for all your continued support.
- By Zajak [gb] Date 15.01.09 10:05 UTC
Have you seen mucous strings when she goes for a wee?
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 15.01.09 10:14 UTC
Yeh the mucus has been coming for days but it is liquid today much thinnner.....
- By Zajak [gb] Date 15.01.09 10:44 UTC
Sounds to me like she's close, my girl went from strings to clear fluid about 24 hours before.  Good Luck!
- By Carrington Date 15.01.09 11:20 UTC

This is the mucus plug, it seals the cervix and breaks away to allow the cervix to dilate in prep for whelping, looking good. :-)
- By Papillon [gb] Date 15.01.09 11:34 UTC
She's getting there, I hope there are some lovely babies by the weekend :-)
- By gembo [gb] Date 15.01.09 12:18 UTC
I've just read this thread all the way through & was getting so excited towards then end!!! Really hope you have some healthy babies soon!
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 15.01.09 12:32 UTC
Just taken temp and 37.2 which i believe is around 98 so not there yet. She is sooo spritely today, very odd compared to a couple of days ago. I am guessing yesterdays power sleeping has done her the world of good!

thanks so much for all the info, its good to share!!! x
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 15.01.09 13:14 UTC
Just realised what i wrote, typo.

The discharge is NOT slimey as usual. I thought the plug was the slimey stuff. Not sure what the liquid is but it is clear and healthy looking so we will see.

Now running around with a ball......i am sure the pups are still inside!!!
- By Papillon [gb] Date 16.01.09 07:36 UTC
How is she looking today?
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 16.01.09 08:04 UTC
Hi
Her temp is 37.3. I have had zero sleep as she spent all night stretched out beside me and didnt move an inch!
She is not fussed about eating and has milk and looks more than ready but no action as yet.
We are both in the office today but only on half day. The weekend is convenient i suppose!

I spoke to my mentor, most of hers go 5 days early so we will see. We have made it to day 58 so at least all is safe. They are still moving nicely. I could clearly see the length of one last night sticking out her side!

Thank you for asking :)
- By Papillon [gb] Date 16.01.09 08:06 UTC
Good to know madam is doing well :-) will be lovely if she produces them over the weekend, think there are a lot of people on here waiting to hear the good news :-)
- By echo [gb] Date 16.01.09 08:38 UTC
I do feel for you, matchsticks at the ready - you will need them for your eyes LOL.  Try to cat nap during the day, a power nap may help.

Good luck, keep posting.
- By Zajak [gb] Date 16.01.09 08:44 UTC
Good luck!
- By Blossom [gb] Date 16.01.09 09:04 UTC

- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 16.01.09 09:31 UTC
Thanks all for your kind wishes.

Am at work so no napping for me today! She is picking at her breakfast so will see her temp at lunch time.......

Tonight would be good for me!
- By AlisonGold [gb] Date 16.01.09 09:34 UTC
Good luck, could be a long night for you.
- By Carole g [gb] Date 16.01.09 10:50 UTC
They are all different! Some girls carrying on eating, others refuse in the last 24 hours. I offer food and remove if not wanted. Wonder if your girl will go the distance to her proper date.
- By gembo [gb] Date 16.01.09 11:32 UTC
She's keeping is all in suspenders isn't she! I hope to see some good news from you when I log in on Monday! Sending you lots & lots & lots of good luck, here's hoping for a fit & healthy set of puppies!
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 16.01.09 12:25 UTC
OOOH! NEWS!

Her temp has dropped to 37.0 and it struggled to get there! She is not sleeping and just keeps walking around holding her ball. Breakfast is still in its bowl bar the odd nibble of the tuna.

She has gone into her crate 3 times which she hasnt been near for months!

How lovely we could be nearing action stations!!!

Stand by your beds, i will keep you all informed x
- By Astarte Date 16.01.09 12:27 UTC
as i am leaving work today at two could you possibly ask her to get a shifty on and not leave me in suspence lol? :)

best of luck
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 16.01.09 12:34 UTC
We are leaving work at two too, as we are still here giving birth in the office is slightly inappropriate!!!

What temperatures did your girls go down to? Am i nearly there????

My god the adrenalin is kicking in.

She keeps walking and sitting down and pushing herself up against things like there is a real pressure on the behind.
- By Papillon [gb] Date 16.01.09 12:39 UTC
That temp drop is good and she's restless, this really could be it :-) will keep checking in
- By Astarte Date 16.01.09 12:41 UTC

> What temperatures did your girls go down to?

not the foggiest! i was just helping my family out with their litter. Kizzy went early though as it was the thursday and i had to skip out on work two days early. still missed the first two arriving as i couldn't get there in time. but then she took about 36 hours (!) in total to deliver them all so didn't miss the whole thing.

it was an astonishing experience.
- By nikkiperry0 [gb] Date 16.01.09 13:41 UTC
ive just read whole thread from start to finish. my god how exciting. it brings itall back to when i was waiting for my little madam to whelp. her pups came on due date but for a whole week before we were on tentor hooks. i cant wait for next update good luck xxx
- By Snoop Date 16.01.09 13:46 UTC
Ooooo....sounds like the pups could be on the move!

Good luck :)
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 16.01.09 14:28 UTC
Hi all, i think we are moving into labour. I had to leave the office! She started diggging her bed up and panting.
We walked through the front door and went straight into her whelping box and sat down. That was a shock. Now very restless. Just put some food down to tempt her but not even looking at it just keeps walking around and following me then going back to her box.
I have informed mentor and vet so she better carry on now or i will look very foolish!!!

Sitting typing to you guys is me prentending to her i am calm!!!!!
- By Papillon [gb] Date 16.01.09 14:33 UTC
Even more promising :-) will check back later
- By qwerty Date 16.01.09 14:35 UTC
