Hi all!
I've been giving both my dogs, who weigh about 8kg each, daily supplements of garlic, cod liver oil and evening primrose oil all in capsule form. The Evening Primrose oil is 1000mg caps as I just happened to have them in the cupboard. It's a very large tub and it seemed a shame not to use them, but I have no idea what sort of daily dosage should be given to dogs of this weight. As 1000mg is obviously a lot, would it be better to give it every other day instead, or does it not really matter?

I have given EPO to my dogs. But too much, I found make their toilet a bit loose, so I'd say try 1 x 1000mg a day for dogs your size. :)

Watch the cod liver oil, too much is supposed to be toxic to a dog (This is what my vet told me).

I started off giving my dog 1000mg daily and reduced it to 500mg - my dog was 42kg! This dose was sufficient to control an ongoing skin problem.
Along with cod liver oil as well I would say that the dose you are giving is excessive. There's two conflicting opinions now so see what others think :)

I use both C.L.O. and E.P.O.but not at the same time,alternate usage of them(I tend to buy what is on offer at the heath food shop)For general dosing one capsule a day is enough but if it is for a specific problem e.g. skin or hormonal you can up the dose,but in this case please take advice from a professional as it varies depending on the problem

Ive just had a look at the doseage of the EPO capsuals that i give my dog, and they are 500mg. I give them twice a day, one in each feed. I have noticed that her "toilet" is always loose, so maybe I am giving too much to.

I've given my flatcoats (35kg approx) 1000mg once a day. Be careful with CLO as you can easily overdo the Vit D and it interferes with calcium absorption, I think.

Cod Liver Oil - I only give CLO once a week, 1 teaspoon full each - dogs are @ 32/37lbs. All the advice I was given starting out on the BARF diet was that the vitamins contained in CLO are stored in the body for long periods, so err on the side of caution?
