Hi
I've just been chatting to someone who has a sharpei puppy - she was complaining that it smells sooooooooooo bad to the point that if it lays on any of the kids clothes their clothes smell so bad they cant continue to wear them.
Have any of you heard of this before?
The puppy is only 10 weeks old and is being fed on Purina.......
thanks for any help

My guess would be that this puppy is a horsecoat! Brushcoats don't tend to have such a 'doggy' smell like a horsecoat does....& with all the heating on at this time of yr will make the pup 'sweat' a bit underneath & smell a bit more than normal. Your friend could give the pup a bath, but making sure that he/she is kept warm until fully dry. Not a lot you can do about this, it's a shar pei thing............lol

i have never fed purina, so cannot say if it's the food or not, what is the pups coat like?
a horsecoat is very short, and like sue say's has a smell of its own, it could be that or it could be yeast based.
I would bath the pup in a mild shampoo, and see if the smell comes back, a yeast infection smells like sweaty feet but worse, if it is that you need to change the food for something that has no beat in it.
Hope that helps a little.

because its a sharpei!! :)
Try one of Doreen Paiges natural shampoos:
http://www.doreenpaige.com/.One with a wee drop of Tea Tree should help and I'm pretty sure theres one for very smelly dogs.
Good Luck
