Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Brown Discharge

Hello

I bred Cher over the Christmas holidays, and she would be about 2 weeks pregnant if it took.  I noticed today, a brownish discharge.  It does not smell.  There is no puss.  She is acting a bit clingy, but otherwise ok.  She is eating and drinking well.   Activity level fine.  She is whining a bit more than usual though, dont know if that is important.

Its about the colour of Hot Chocolate (the best I can describe it).

I havent seen this before, and neither have some of my breeder friends.

Should I be worried???

There should not be any discharge, if in doubt then get your dog to the vet...

My friends bitch had a brown discharge all through her pregnancy (vaginitis) vet was not concerned as long as it did not change to red.  She delivered a nice litter if 4 only toy breed.

Just had Cher at the vets yesterday, did a urine sample on her.  In the urine, they found:
- white cells
- red blood cells
- blood clots
- low concentrated urine
- bacteria

They have her on ABs for 10 days, and she is getting a scan done on the 23rd of Jan (25 days post mate)

It could be anything from "normal" to pyo or something like that.  The ABs are safe for pregnant bitches, thankfully.  Just a wee bit worried (ok a lot worried).

just read your post.  can sympathise with you 100%.  my girl had that discharge just as you described from the outset of pregnancy until a week before she delivered.  i took her to the vet at 2 weeks and she was on ABS for the entire pregnancy.......the best news is she delivered 6 fab pups without any problems whatsoever and considering her breed and this was her first litter we were delighted.
hope all goes well for your girl.

I am hoping I have the same outcome.  I want nice, healthy pups.  (Maybe a show quality female lol)  This will be Chers first litter, and the stud I chose is such a nice complement to her.  Keeping my fingers crossed until the scan next Friday.
