can somebody please advise me on my pregnant bitch. She is 2 1/2 weeks possibly pregnant, this being our second time of trying(she had a false pregnancy first time around). I noticed yesterday, that when she got up from her bed a thick mucous discharge fell from her vulva. (without being too vulger it looked alot like a big ball of 'snot') She doesn't have any other discharges at this time, it seems to be a one of thing, should i be concerned or is this normal. i have spoken to the vets on the phone and they say nothing too much to worry about, but bring her in for a check especially if she carries on with it. I would be grateful of any advice, cheers.
Hi, seems a little early but is the first sign of pregnancy! Congratulations. Providing it doesnt smell and is clear. Look out for her being off her food around day 21.....
Good Luck!
hi peppapug, thanks for your reponse. It didn't smell and it's not there constantly, it seems just the once, but it was very mucousy, but not what i'd call clear, it was more of a greeny phlegm 'thing', thats what concerned me, but my vets don't seem overly concerned!

I would keep a close eye on her! I've just had a bitch who had a pale green discharge while pregnant. Vet was very concerned and confirmed it was an infection. I had to take her in every few days for a scan to check puppies were still alive and she was put on 'puppy safe' antibiotics.
She had a constant discharge mind, not just a one off.
Clear discharge is normal but greeny can be an infection.
I'm not trying to scare you, just telling you what happen with my girl!
thanks for your reply, have been keeping an eye open for any other discharge but haven't seen anymore yet. It seems abit weird just the one lot, thats probably why my vets weren't too concerned. She will be approaching 4 weeks on wednesday, when bitches sometimes get the stringy discharge, so will keep an eye out for that too. She's very well in herself and has been all the way through, but somethings telling me she hasn't took again. She will be going for a scan the end of next week to see, as last time she had a phantom with all the signs, including the tummy and the plug at the end, which really fooled us. Her temperament is different as she is very fussy at the moment and her nipples do appear slightly larger than they normally are and she appears ravenous and has started begging for food which she never does. Could all be post season signs i suppose but fingers crossed anyway. Thanks again
just thought i'd ask, and it may seem silly, but my bitch is coming up to 4 weeks on wednesday and is going for a scan at week 5(as recommended by my vet). She had a phantom pregnancy last time with all the signs that she was going to give birth so i am abit 50/50 as to whether she is actually going to produce this time. Is it possible to feel anything myself long her nipple line when she is lying on her back as it seems quite enlarged along there, but wasn't sure if the pups would be palpable from here or are deeper within, as i convinced myself i could feel 1 or 2 tiny little bumps along her nipple line when i was stroking her belly. Any answers gratefully received, thanks.

In Response to icemaiden:
Unless you know what you are doing, it is better to let more experienced hands do the palpatation. Always been what I was told, so I have stuck with that.
hi i agree entirely and wouldn't purposefully feel around for them, it was just i thought i'd felt some little 'nodules' when i was stroking her belly as she likes to lie on her back and have her belly rubbed, but didn't know if the pups were carried this close to the bottom of her belly, cheers.
