Hello,

My spaniel has just been diagnosed with pancreatitus and prescribed a low fat dog food but does anyone know of any low fat treat/biscuit recipes ?

She could eat non stop if left to her own devices but i would still like to give her the odd treat...are there any recipes that anyone knows of that would keep her mind occupied for longer than 2 seconds...typical spaniel i think.

Many thanks

Annee

Thank you...she has had them but just chews them up and spits them all over the carpet :)

I wish she would eat them as ive heard lots of dogs like them as a treat...she's just too fussy lol

this is a by product of them munching them, its very messy!! (my lad does the same but loves them)

a raw bone always goes down well, just cut off any fat on it.

or tuna cake? tuna, garlic, flour and water- blitz it up and bake till firm. usually its liver cake but i'm not sure if liver is fatty?

You can buy either rice flour or potato flour and mix anything in it that is low in fat.  You could use wheat flour too, but I don't.

To the flour add anything low in fat.  Microwave or roast sweet potatoes, mash, and mix with the flour - or use any kind of veg your dog likes.  You could also add any low-fat protein - buy turkey mince, precook it and drain off all the fat before adding it to the flour.   Or, buy any canned fish that is not packed in oil - mush and add to the flour.

The mix should be moist enough to cling together - make walnut size balls - press down lightly to flatten - bake until lightly brown.

Freeze any your dog will not eat in 4 - 5 days and defrost when needed.

Owww that sucks ... i'm sorry for you and your cute doggy
But you can take them when you go with her for a walk - that it does not matter if she is fussy ;)
