Topic Other Boards / Foo / Water - 750ml
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 12.01.09 09:37 UTC
Quick question, i have a bottle of water and its 750ml... is this 250ml less of a litre? And if so that would mean with the recommended daily amount being 2 litres, that i need around 2 and a half bottles of this 750ml?
- By St.Domingo Date 12.01.09 09:41 UTC
1 litre is 1000ml , so you need 2 bottles of 750ml and another 500ml .
I am fairly sure the RDA includes tea/coffee in the 2 litres . 2 litres of water plus tea/coffee seems a lot IMO .

Thanks for your reply!! :)

I thought that was what it equivilated too! So ill just drink 3 of these bottles and im getting over my amount then and its about right, or may just drink about 2 and 3/4 of this bottle then im sorted

I have a 50cl bottle in my draw... whats that in mili litres?? I passed maths at school! Surprising how quickly you forget isnt it!
- By St.Domingo Date 12.01.09 09:50 UTC
Not sure about 'cl' but i would guess that it stands for centi-litres ie. hundredths of a litre , therefore 50cl would be 500ml . But that's only a guess !
I think wine is sold in cl , so a 75cl bottle is 750ml .

Ohhh thank you, i would guess too thats probably right now you said it!!

Thanks!! x

No probs - maths was never my strong point - i only got a CSE level 2 !
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 12.01.09 10:05 UTC
I got a B at GCSE maths, so not quite sure what happened there!! LOL
- By Blue Date 12.01.09 10:21 UTC
To be exact you would need  2 and 2/3rds bottles.  But just drink the 3 :-)

Be careful you don't drink too much water - it can be quite bad for you.

I had problems with my vocal chords for years so an ENT specialist and a speech therapist recommended that I drink lots of water to try and ease the symptoms... well I took it literally and drank the 2 litres a day and to say I felt awful for it is an understatement... my vision would become impaired and I would have really bad and frequent dizzy spells!  The 2 litres should be adjusted to take account of various factors including weight/height/environment etc.  Basically don't over think/calculate it!

Don't forget that the daily amount of 2 litres includes the liquid in your food! We get about 20-30% of our daily intake this way.

Water intake information.

Thanks you two

Thanks for that link too, thats interesting, so really with the food eaten in a day and a couple of brews if that a day... i only really need about 2 bottles of water and not 2bottles and 2/3 or whatever? Is that correct now, i do lose a lot through sweat (i aint a sweaty betty) just do a lot of exercise and running and kickboxing etc... so lose a lot that way i guess... but would 2 suffice would you think? I mean around 1.5 litres instead? :-)
- By St.Domingo Date 12.01.09 13:55 UTC
I would take it slowly and try 1 bottle with all your other food/drink and then see if you feel that you can take more .
If i try to drink that much water i just feel sick !
You can  actually die of drinking too much water , that's why athletes take sports drinks to balance out their body salts/electrolytes .

How can you die?? Surely what you dont use you just pee out anyway??
- By Moonmaiden Date 12.01.09 14:13 UTC
Oh yes you can if you drink too much too quickly
- By Staff [gb] Date 12.01.09 14:15 UTC
You would have to drink loads and loads of water for it to kill you, basically you drown your body.  Somebody did this but they drank more water than you could ever imagine drinking lol!!

I drink 2 bottles of water (750ml) throughout the day at work but then drink atleast another 2 pints of water or squash before the end of the day.  I find i'm so used to drinking this much that when I don't drink enough I get headaches and feel really ill.

You don'tjust pee the excess water - it takes with it essential salts and electrolytes from your body. Can you drink too much water?

"Good hydration" article.

Another example of 'death by water'.
- By St.Domingo Date 12.01.09 14:19 UTC
There was a case about a year ago of a young man who died after drinking too much water whilst trying to be 'healthy' . It does happen .
Which is why i suggested she take it slowly  and increase the ammount of water as she feels she can .
- By Tadsy Date 12.01.09 14:21 UTC
The key is to drink it evenly throughout the day, as MM points out the danger is if you drink too much too quickly.

There was a case in the papers a couple of months ago regarding one of these reduced calorie diets, I can't remember which but think it was Lighter life, anyway they recommend you drink so many litres of water throughout the day, this lady had been busy and didn't get to drink much throughout the day, so drunk the entire quota in the evening over a very short period of time, unfortunately she died.

Same thing when you read about the "kids" who die after taking ecstacy, it's actually the amount of water they've drunk that caused the deaths, triggered by some reaction to the tablet, they just feel really thirsty and can't seem to quench it. (Just like to point out I'm not saying that drugs are safe, or condoning drug use!)

Blooming heck

four litres of water in under two hours, an inquest has heard < thats no where near what i would be drinking!! Especially in that space of time, i know you shouldnt drink too much at once as it just goes through your body and has no effect anyway, but i havent even got through my first bottle of 750ml yet!! Lol, Drinking it slowely so it absorbs better, thats a hell of a lot of water and i thought it would be common sense that you shouldnt drink it that fast anyway! However, i still wouldnt of imagined it would kill you, thats shocking isnt it! Should be more media about that sort of thing, however its not that common i guess, poor woman

My friend drinks well over the amount you should and has healthy skin and looks fantastic, her body is used to it now though and she doesnt drink it because she has too, she is just thirsty lol! Just want to be healthier as per 2009 resolution, so drinking more water to rehydrate my body
- By St.Domingo Date 12.01.09 14:27 UTC
If they did chocolate flavoured water i dare say i could manage a couple of litres !!!!
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 12.01.09 14:31 UTC
Just read those articles, thanks for that

It really opens your eyes doesnt it, people emphasize how good water is for you, but people could well be drinking too much in a short period of time, its kind of scared me now lol! Wasnt aware of any of this and at any time i suppose really anyone could do this not knowing the consequences... goodness

I drink at least 2 litres of water every day, I usually buy 7 2 litre bottles of Tesco's sparkling water & drink one spread out over the day with a drop of concentrated no sugar added squash. I'm a diabetic & so need to drink at least that much every day. The water is cheap(under 20p)& helps me keep check on how much I have drunk. I used to do a lot of running & gym training & got used to keeping hydrated. Never drank the"sports"drinks unless it was Gatorade(sp)when I was running

How come you stopped running? I have recently started running along with my walking and i feel miles fitter, but my knees have started hurting a lot, so going docs tonight, not sure if its the pressure or what but better to be safe than sory i guess

Moderation in all things! Too much of most things is as bad as too little of them. The important thing is not to put up with feeling thirsty - if you're thirsty your body needs a drink.

Everybody is different.... i drink an awful lot in a day when i am at work..(office based) about 4 cuppa's  then approx 2 litres of water with wee drop no sugar squash... then at home will drink another couple of pints of juice between getting home and going to bed... at the weekend I might drink slightly less but not much..... but at home not so much tea.... in fact tend to have just one cuppa a day at home...

>> How come you stopped running?

I did the last ADT London Marathon & pulled the capsule of the cruciate ligament off the calf muscle & had a load of operations to repair it, but sadly I have arthritis in both my knees & after several falls, too many years when I was young running in plimsolls on hard surfaces & inheritable  osteo arthritis means I cannot walk without pain let alone run. The last fall I had actually damaged the cartilage & knee joint & no I hadn't been on the ribena either !
