- By gumi [gb] Date 07.01.09 01:39 UTC
Hi all

Just wondering

Our Cavalier got his injections a year ago as per the normal age and advice from vets.

He is Now 13months

Does he need boosters?

Thanks

you can do titer test first.

This is a typical vaccine schedule.

The other option is to titre test (have a blood sample taken and sent off to be tested for antibodies) and booster according to the results.

Do they not do the 3yr booster and 3yr rabie shot there? Just wondering cause my vet now offers it for both, it use to be only for the rabie shot :-)

The schedule in the link indicates they do get a 3 year booster.   That's the routine mine are on too.

Rabies shots are not given routinely here in the UK.  Really the only time a dog gets a rabies shot is if someone wants to get a Pet Passport.  Or, if they bring a dog into the UK from a country that is not part of the Passport Scheme - then it's a shot and six month quarrantine.

With my dogs they get their puppy course, then their booster a year later, then it's every 3 years.

I was not aware you could have it every 3yrs,ive always had mine done every yr with a booster.
Can you only do this from pups to start with or could i do it now. ive got a 2yr old due now...how would that work please sharon M.

Have a look at the link I posted. That makes everything clear.

Took my 3 for their annual boosters today and they only got the PiL (Parainfluenza/Leptospirosis) jab. Glad to see our vets is following the new protocol.

The full booster has to be given a year after puppy vaccs with intervet vaccines, other wise the puppy course is deemed to be useless. After that its a full booster every 3 years and lepto every year. (except that a manufacturing problem means that there lepto is in very short supply until April which is causing vets a big stock headache!) If you are really worried i would have this one and then titre test next year.
