Hi there, just wondered if anyone could shed some light on this operation. I posted before as my sisters yorkie was hit by a car and had fractured his pelvis. He has been on crate rest for 3 weeks and made a considerable improvement! So much so that they had to stop the painkillers as he was trying to run around as normal! He is also cocking this leg and itching his ears with it! He is due this op in a week and wondered if anyone had experienced this and had any advice for the recovery period.
He is finding it very hard as he is only 7 months old and went through a phase of crying and howling all night, weeing and pooing in the crate, tipping his food and water over etc! He has stopped this now but as he is doing so well my sister is also going to find it hard putting him through the op and pain.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

This might explain it in more detail

Note the last paragraph

Postoperatively the animal is restricted in movement until the skin sutures are removed. At this time exercise is begun and continued. Best results seem to be associated with higher levels of exercise at this time.

Hi there, thanks for the response. Little Seb went for a check up last week and doesnt have to have the excision arthroplasty! We can never say never but at the moment he is recovering very well. We have a check up in 2 weeks again but he is now off all painkillers and just 2 more weeks off strict cage rest left.
