Hello champdogs

Sorry if this is quite a long post there is quite abit to say. I mated my girl in twice last year with no results, used a proven stud and paid quite a substantial amount. The stud owner said that they will allow another mating as the know im breeding to keep for the showring. She came into heat in december and was going to be ready to be mated around xmas period, i rang them to let them know she was in and they said they were away for the week but they would get in touch to see if they could sort something out. Im still waiting to hear from them to this day.......

Since my girl missed twice before i wanted to get a premate done to hopefully improve my chances, took her on her 6th day (results no she isnt ready, was expected as she isnt normally attractive to males until after her 13th day) took her again on her 8th day (said she was ovulating take her asap, i was very skeptical) took her to the stud, not the original one but a different one (luckily i know him well and he was going to be a future mate, although i thought it would be in the future but nevermind) dog not interested whatsoever, took her again 3 days later her 11th day, still nothing, took her on her 13th day nothing but showing abit more interest. Took her again on her 15th day and we had a succesful tie and again 24 hours later. The dog was still very interested in her and we had another tie on day 19. Why were the vets sooo wrong, never again will i use that method. Will a gap of 3 days between mating have any affect on due dates , as im going off her first mating now?

She will be 2 weeks if she is, and feeling very sorry for herself, giving me that look and not enjoying her walks as much, she is fine in herself though. She has been sick once this morning and is looking a little thicker round the waist. I havent given her anymore food than usual but normally dont expect to see these signs for another 2 weeks. Her back end is still slighty swollen which i have always seen as a good sign.

P.S She has had one litter before.

I find vets that dont deal with a lot of planned matings are never very good at judging things, even the ones that are can get it wrong.  I always find that a dog can judge better than a human anyday.  I even use a very keen neutered male I have to judge if they are ready before taking them off to be mated.  Her matings you mentioned is slightly later than I would have expected but not unheard off.
I would personally calculate from the first mating.  Fingers crossed for pups.

I agree i thought he was just being hopeful and was slightly suprised with a tie, i was obviously there to supervise but she stood for him and allowed it. After that he was no longer interested.

If it's any help, my last litter was born after matings on days 18 (the earliest the bitch would stand) and 20; the litter was born naturally 68 days from the 1st mating (66 from the 2nd). They were all fine - I was a wreck!

I spoke to Keith Shea and he advised me on which company to send the blood sample to for my girl.  She had missed three times before, although had had two previous litters which were conceived on day 18.  Well took her day 5, sent the blood samples off and was told the next day that she needed mating straight away.  At the moment signs are looking good so I'm hoping for some pups in the near future.

exact same thing happened with one of my families bitches. it doesn't seem to work that well (another molosser- assuming your girl is from your name :))

Well i was advised to use idexxx but with it being over xmas i wouldnt have gotten the results back when needed. I was told they look for non nucleated cells with the premate when ovulating and this is what she was showing, i did contact matetel but they have had a family tragedy so are no longer in business. I wont be using any scientific methods again, cant beat letting the dog have a go. Just wondering how they can say she was ovulating but then the dog not to try and mate her for another 7 days afterwords. With the idexxx its progesterone testing i think and that will probably be more accurate testing hormones than looking at cells. But we shall see...
