hi can you please tell me how old the pups need to be for it to be safe for other people to visit the pups. by people i just mean family but my sister does have a dog and i have been told she wont be able to come see them.

Puppies will be covered by the mothers immunity, so if fact they a re safer now than when they a re ready to leave as the time the maternal immunity wanes is very variable.  This is when the vaccinations are done to take over.

If your sisters dog is well then there is no reason for her not to visit.  Normal hygiene measures should e taken like hand washing, removing outdoor shoes etc.

The visiting pups topic has been recently covered, so why not try the search facility.

i let people visit from 3 weeks, make them stand in disinfectant, and wash their hands in antibac soap.
i also start my babies on nosodes at 3 weeks as well.

I don't mind people coming to see my pups from when they are born as long as the mum doesn't object, you can't keep them wrapped in cotton wool. As soon as they are up and about and playing the more the merrier. It does them good to socialise and builds up their immunity. I wouldn't allow a dog to visit though, even my son's dog has to stay away :(  It upsets the mum too much.

ok just i was told people with dogs could not visit, this is what i am most concerned about. my bitch is fine with people seeing the pups and she is fine with my other dog. the only thing i am worried about is people say you cant allow other dogs near incase they have anything but does that mean i can never let my dog near them as could he not have picked something up from the fields.

I allow people to visit the pups at 5 weeks, I ensure they wash their hands on arrival and walk through disenfectant. all precationary..
