Topic Dog Boards / General / Cost of boarding?
- By Star [in] Date 05.01.09 15:16 UTC
I have been asked to look after a couple of medium/large dogs for 3 months belonging to a friend of a friend who does not wish them to go to commercial kennels. Any idea what a cost would be if they were long stay in a commercial kennel
Thanks

I'd try ringing around a few kennels and asking what they'd charge, by saying that you're looking into the possibility of having to kennel two of your own dogs that way and are making general enquiries.

Thanks JG, I did think of that but am not very good at 'telling little porkies'

Either get your friend or the dogs owners to do the phoning, when they find out the kennel costs they may well offer more than you would ask them for, don't forget to sort out insurance (to cover your responsibilities/liabilities not the vet insurance) as well as getting something signed to say you can authorise any necessarry vet treatment needed (just in case).

Hi Sue

I pay 7.65 per dog per night.

I'd imagine a long stay would be given a discounted rate, rather than the price paid for a week or a fortnight.

I pay £10 a day for my two (each) we have a cocker and a border collie, plus I supply their food and the vet has agreed to see them if required and we pay the bill when we get home.

I paid £10 a dog boarding in a kennel, and I charge for home boarding £7 a day, that includes there food ,and 3 good walks a day.

Hi, I have two Great danes and when they go it costs me £14 per day or part day. I now have three so I think I will need to take out a loan for my next holiday!!!!

My 3 Rotties are costing me £540 for my next holiday. £10 per dog per day and because of flight times, friends staying the day before flying and the beastie being a bit unpredictable with nervous (around dogs) people, we're putting them in a day earlier to be on the safe side!

When i was collecting my cats from cattery the other day, somebody came in and asked how much it was to kennel a cocker spaniel, the girl said £11.95 per night,i thought that was very expensive myself. The cats were £5.75 each that was bad enough.

Hi Star, hope I'm not pointing out the obvious here but a few months back I seem to remember someone else doing this kind of favour and a small scrap between the dogs resulted in the guest dog needing vet treatment. As an unforseen accident there was no prior discussion on who would pay in such an eventuality.

Not trying to put a dampener on things just maybe something else to discuss with your friends :)

wow some of those prices seem cheap - in my area you would be looking at £15 per day for one dog - I'm sure there would be some discount for longer stays though,

We're in London and charge £41.40 for 2 dogs in together.

I've checked out a couple in my area and the price has varied from £11.65 per night to £17 per night, the less expensive one also offered discount for larger number of dogs
