I read this thread earlier tonight but decided not to get embroiled in it as I had a feeling it would go that way...

Wish I hadn't now, just very fed up of anti pedigree people. I wish we could all post on there and then they could see how much support there is for pedigree dogs.

I had a read of it and decided not to bother :-( You will never change the minds of people like this, no matter how much you argue your case. They just want to bring down the good work done by breeders who care, just as much as they want to bring down puppy farmers. In their eyes there is no difference.

Thanks for replying to this thread LindyLou. Wish I could change it, I sure don't understand why everyone is so anti to everything

I read some of it, some of those people need to get a grip just shows another example of how one programme can influence some people who can't be bothered to do any research and take everythihng they see on the TV as the truth! Thankfully not ALL people are anti everything, it's a funny old world. lol

They're obviously enjoying themselves, using you as a 'punchbag'.  The problem is that you entered into the argument using your personal experiences and that's given them an opportunity to personally attack you and use your examples to back their arguments (supposedly).  Next time (if there is one) try to keep the information objective and generic using facts and figures that they can't argue against.

Strictly speaking one of them is correct in saying that pedigrees have evolved through human intervention playing around with mixing breeds.  So, at what point does the mixing of genetics result in a breed?  In other words, how many generations of breeding Labrador x Poodles would you need to be able to call the crossbreed a pedigree? If you know the answer to that one you have addressed the mongrel comments on the thread.  I haven't got a clue to the answer. Breeds have been bred to suit man's work needs in a variety of domesticated animals i.e. cows have been bred selectively to produce certain milk, the Fresian is most commonly used for milk because it yields higher quantities than other breeds; chickens have been bred selectively to produce eggs with harder shells so that they don't break so easily when they roll down the chutes in the battery farms (actually, I don't know if that is true, someone told me this  is why eggs take 4 minutes to boil instead of 3 which was the standard time when I was a kid). :-)  Anyway, point is that dogs are just another domesticated animal and used to either work in a variety of occupations or as companions.

If they then go on about breed defects then I would just simply say that if it is proven that breeds are suffering because of breed standards then of course this should be investigated properly and adjustments made.  That would have to shut them up.  Whatever they come back at you with you've just answered and need say no more.

At the end of it all the main point is that breeders who do try to breed responsibly, follow breed standards as set out by a governing body.  They research and study the breeds and prospective breeding dogs before embarking on litters. Responsible breeders pay out for a variety of health checks in order to avoid potential health problems.  Unfortunately, it is the back street breeders who are perpetuating the health problems by not researching pedigrees for good selection or health checking their breeding dogs. It's those peope who make the big profits, not the responsible breeder.

Yes they are next time I will keep quiet, you can't win against these people. Like all of you I am no way in it for the money :-( They kept commenting on personal experience and getting it wrong.

The person foreign correspondent is a horrid person, she thinks because she rescues she is gods gift.

Thank you for your long helpful reply I do appreciate it.

When I last made the same mistake, I asked them what they would have me do to correct all the ills they saw in pedigree dogs.
The answer, they didn't have an answer just " I must have something to hide because I disagreed" or personal abuse.

Probably little middle- aged chaps/ chapesses with tanktops, living in their mum's spare room.

......Keeps them away from the porn sites at least :-)

Ha ha bet some of them look like Lou from Little Britain

I wonder how many of them actually care about dogs and how many are just doing it for an argument.
- By tooolz Date 05.01.09 00:03 UTC
Well....keeps them off the streets eh?
When the warmer weather comes along they'll resume their train spotting I expect or inner city rioting perhaps :-(

I read the thread out of pure interest, and now I am wishing I didnt!  How horrible!  Personally attacking all people on the thread who are dog breeders, and they are attacking the ones who HEALTH TEST, and work their dogs.

Not going to post on it though, but really opened my eyes to the damage PDE really has caused!  Cant deny that at all.

I've tried to locate it, i'm wondering if its the one which has now been moved and i can't find - possibly closed off??
It was in the Pets and Care section. The above links don't connect at all.

I just wondered exactly what they said on there.

I had to join, to be able to read any threads, so once I did, I was able to search for it.  Its called "stop the kennel club".

Or you can search (like I did) for the word Pedigree.  It came up pretty quick then
