Wondering if any one can help, i got a new camera for christmas (a point and shoot) and uploaded some pictures onto the computer today. managed to upload them ok, but have noticed that the file sizes are really big, approx 4 MB, as opposed to my photos from my old camera, approx 700 KB. i email a lot of photos to my family in canada, and could only put on 2-3 pictures an email, as opposed to 9=10 previously. anybody any idea why this is and what i can do to make them smaller? im not sure if it is because the quality is maybe better? (as you can probably tell im not very technically minded, so any help in basic terms please!) :)

www.photobucket.co.uk  you can upload them onto there, then save from there onto your computer makes them a lot smaller and better to send.

One of the best little picture handling programs is Irfanview, which you can download free.

You can easily resize and also compact files.

The camera is probably taking the images at 300 pixels and you need to reduce this to 72 to send in an Email. It could be that the camera is set to take the highest quality and you probably need one up from the poorest of may be even the lowest. Take a look at the cameras menu and turn the jpeg quality down.

I open my photos with windows microsoft office  picture manager. Then i click on edit photos at the top and down the right of the photo appears an options list.I click on resize in the list and then choose predefined width x height.A drop down box will appear offering you different sizes to choose from eg document, Web, E mail and large or small then i just click the size i want and click save and its done.Easy :)
Hope this helps
