- By Cava14Una Date 07.11.02 14:06 UTC
Hi all,
I don't know if it is all BBC regions or just Scotland but tonight at 9pm on BBC1 there is a programme called Pet Hates. May just be usual lets bash pet lovers but maybe not,

yes its on here too. Did anyone see last nights neighours from hell programme the horrible man who went out and shoot the cats? made me really cross evil man. :( So more tonight? Makes you wonder why we have so many nasty people in this world? :(
- By eoghania [de] Date 07.11.02 16:14 UTC
Actually, I tend to wonder about all of the truly nice people in the world :) They're the unusual ones imo. ;) It's definitely harder to be good than bad---especially if there's no profit in it  :D :D :D

I also think that some people always look on the bright side and others are miserable old g*ts.
When I was taking my son to school yesterday I overheard this snatch of a conversation between 2 young mums....' actually I didn't mind really, in fact it worked out better in the end'. I don't know what they were talking about, but obviously this girl has a much sunnier nature than another one I often see who's always effing and blinding at her kids. (not that I don't sometimes of course, but she does it all the time)
Nowt so queer as folk eh??

Hello Folks,
did it make anyone else have tears in the eyes to see the poor little kittens being put down. I'm not mad on cats but
got very upset about the poor kitten's .

Pat yes I did have a few tears at that point very upsetting. :( What did most of you think about the lady and her dog on death row? :(
- By Helen [gb] Date 08.11.02 16:00 UTC
I hadn't realised that the dog had been in there for nearly 18 months. I'm not sure I would have put one of mine through that as the photos of the bite was pretty damming. Difficult one though.

We were never really told much about the background of what had happened exactly. I took it to mean that the dog had gone into neighbours' garden and the bite took place there. Another illustration of why you should never leave children and dogs unsupervised. I don't know what I would have done in circumstances but felt very sorry for dog in kennels also for child, not a good situation for anyone involved

We watched the Pet Hates programme , thought it was quite fairly produced ..both sides shown for a change :) Have to admit , dont know that *I* would like to live next door to someone that has 19 housecats plus 45 rescue cats in pens !! I also agree with the slightly obssessed couple about dog poo on the streets..I HATE IT! Why people cannot clear it up I will never know and it gives ALL dog owners a bad name.

The chap who had friends stay at his house and let them shoot the neighbours cat deserved the £1500 fine that he was habded out!

All in all though , yes ..a show that actually showed 2 sides to every story :)

I agree Melody. Thought it was a very good balanced programme. I liked the bloke in Stafford I think, who patrolled his garden with his water gun. I think he quite liked thinking up ideas to deter cats. At least he never harmed them.

Wasn't keen on the bit where they put the kitty to sleep !!!!!
- By julie white [gb] Date 08.11.02 15:20 UTC
Bit worried that they only seemed to manage to find completely obsessed people for the programme!!!! :D Don't think I want to be classed as a dog lover if it entails giving your dog a 4 poster bed and dressing it up in stupid clothes!!!!!!!!!!!
- By Julieann [gb] Date 08.11.02 15:50 UTC
I did think the programme was OK but the dog poo people seem obessed with it! Whilst I hate dog owners who don't pick up after their dogs and yes I do and so does hubby with Molly we walk around with nappy bags in most of our jackets! Those who do let their dogs poo and not pick up do ruin it for others? Those two last night were a bit barking!!!

Melody,
I agree that it seems rather a lot of cats!! Did I misunderstand or did she really mean that she was going to leave that kitten to die. Don't agree with drowning it but just leaving it didn't seem right either

I cried for both kittens. I am not sure which one upset me more - one being pts and the other poor thing being left to die - the latter I think. Surely the woman with the dog that had bitten could have gone to see it sooner too?

Hi, I saw this programme too. Think from that guy's story about his "friends" from America and whereever, it was a cover story so as not to incrimate himself on TV - methinks he was the guilty shootist! The one about the bull terrier upset me. He was obviously guilty, but that dog doesn't know that his owner is fighting for it, all it knows is misery and abandonment with no exercise and love - I think it would be fairer to the poor animal to be pts. If the court case only took a month or so, fair enough fight the case, but all court cases drag on and the dog is the one suffering. As for satin four poster beds for Afghan Hounds - !!!!! Rhum would be mortified! I personally wouldn't want to live beside 40 plus cats - I think that lady should try to get good homes for the rescue cats, instead of keeping them inside all the time.

Right off for my curry and a vodka & coke!!!!!

As for the EBT that bit the little girl, it did go into the childs garden, and did bite the child. The owners excuse that it was "provoked " hold no water with me. The owner is at fault, for not ensuring that the dog could not access the children. Because of this the child is scarred mentally and physically and the dog will be pts. I dont know why she is so dead set on dragging it through the courts, as she hasnt a hope in hell of winning, whatever the circumstances or provacation. She has a nerve to try and defend it or deny it! I would be mortified if my girl bit anyone, and would certainly not be arrogant enough to appear on tv claiming that it wasnt true, as we all saw the photos! Shame for the poor dog, for the fault of the owner.
- By Kash [gb] Date 10.11.02 00:10 UTC
I agree with pinklilies- at the end of the day when all's said and done the dog bit the child and it isn't much better off being in the pound while the owner takes it through the courts- it would be better all round if the dog was pts:( Maybe the owner will make sure in future that there are no gaps or anything in order to prevent such a thing happening in the future. Personally I have no gaps what so ever- just in case- it only takes the dog to nip and then you've got an irrate parent going off their head swearing they were attacked- unprovoked of course:rolleyes: I have a padlock on the gate latch so no one can even enter. I too would be mortified if my girl did bite anyone and equally as mortified if my kids were ever bit!

As for the couple who were hell bent on finding *poo* on the street- it does annoy the hell out of me and there was an awful lot of crap on that street but they seemed to be letting it completely run their lives 's**t spotting'. I always take a carrier out with me just in case but Kass won't even pee anywhere other than the back garden:rolleyes: so I don't have the joy of keeping my hands warm in winter:p

" I personally wouldn't want to live beside 40 plus cats"

Trust me, it is a nasty experience!!!!! The first year we lived in NM, we had to live in a mobile home park. The 50-60 year old man who lived next door wasn't 'all there', even though he was gainfully employed with the government.
He collected cats!!! I have no idea how many there were, at least 40 of them. And they multiplied from that. They were over the roof, in our yard, under his home, etc... I don't know how he managed to live there.

The health dept. finally had enough of complaints against him and got the military to send some men out to clean his house. Animal control in this town at the time was useless. The first man came out gagging. They had to put on gas masks and chem suits to be able to work in there. It took a week to clear it out.

Apparently, he would buy cheap clothes, wear them for two weeks straight and then discard them in a pile within the house. The litter boxes were buried under these clothes. The floor was rotted through in places. Garbage was through the house, rotten food was everywhere, the fridge couldn't be opened without HazMat. The place was a toxic dump and I lived 10 feet away facing this nightmare!!!!!!

So if you all ever wonder why I shy away from owning more than 3 animals and get concerned with the 'collecting' of strays and puppies, this is my image of how bad things can get. The guy started out with the best of intentions 10 years before to give cats a needed home. Then it really got out of hand :( I don't know when exactly he became 'odd'. But it was a terrible thing to live next to :(

The one positive point was even with the horrible sanitation, there were no rats to worry about  So plague wasn't too much of a concern. Yes, NM is known for having plague in the state. Who worries about rabies, with plague? Lord, I"m glad that I no longer live there.
Oops, rant over :P

Yeah, it was a real lowpoint in my life  :(
It was the nastiest that first summer. Hottest on record (of course) 12 days in a row that reached 115 degrees farenheit (38? cel). Horrible smell. :(
I've never been so glad to move on base :) :D
