I am looking to buy a new printer. I will be wanting to print photographs and documents mainly. Any recommendations? Is anyone using a wireless printer, are they a good buy?

We have a photo smart c5180, it is just great!
I suppose it depends what you want from it, this is fast and clear and just the job for home use, decent enoough on photos, not certain what kind of documents it would cover certainly enough for us.

We got my FIL this one for Christmas http://www.amazon.co.uk/Epson-Stylus-SX600FW-Printer-WiFi/dp/B001EHF922/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230588238&sr=8-1.  Hubby said it's really good, but they haven't printed any photos on it yet, so can't comment on that one.  I quite fancy getting this one for myself to be honest.  Before Christmas, PC World were doing it for £99.

I had nothing but trouble with my Epson (sorry Simone!)  I did some research and saw that Hewlett Packard had some good feedback.  I have the HP SC 2355 all-in-one Printer, Scanner, Copier.  Photographs are brilliant, and much, much cheaper to do than my Kodak photo dock, the paper was far too costly.  Very pleased with HP.

I'll second Hewlett Packard.  I have an HP Photosmart C6180 - printer/copier/scanner/fax.  It's excellent - the downside is the cost of the cartridges as you cannot use compatible ones, but I wonder if that is the same for all printers now.  It's Wifi compatible and you can also print direct from camera memory cards.

Hewlett Packard here too, never had a problem with them at all. Great make!!

I too have had problems with Epson. and I have tried 5 of them, they do good work when it does work.

I now have a Canon IP4500 and can't fault the way it works and the work it produces, prints DVDs as if it enjoys it, the Epson used to spit them out umpteen times before it would print one with reluctance and the same went for anything other that the most normal of paper.

Both the Epson and the Canon print quality work but for the special photo you need to use a professional printer; even if you pay a fortune for your ink and card you can't reproduce an image of real quality but for proofs and keepsakes most printers will give a moderate performance and most will print direct from the camera or the camera card if that is your need.

One of the big considerations for me is the price of the cartridge refills - it is often cheaper to buy a new printer than it is to get a new ink cartridge. Some printers have to have all their cartridges replaced when one colour runs out so that can be exceedingly costly.

Neither the Epson nor the Canon I have used require all colours changed if one runs out but agree with you one can often replace the printer for not much more than the cost of a set of ink. Have tried the cheaper inks but have not found them to be satisfactory but messy they can be. Understand the there is some body or other looking into the price of replacement inks but would think if they are made to reduce them the cost of printers will go up to compensate.
