Topic Dog Boards / Health / stiffness in dogs!!!

HI Everyone, I was wondering what any of you have used for dogs with stiffness. My bitch (small breed) has started getting stiff after her walks and we have now reduced them down slightly

I would like to give her some sort of supplement and have a few ideas but would rather try something that others have used and has worked with good effect

She is not at the stage where she needs to see the vet

Thanks

Glucosamine with Chondroitin. Withtout it my Golden with severe hip dysplasia could not use his hindlegs at all, after a few weeks on it (it takes 4-6 weeks to have an effect) he could go for normal walks again. He's been on it for about 5 years now.

You could try New Zealand Green Lipped Mussel extract.  This seemed to be effect for my old terrier before her arthritis became more severe.

Another thing I swear by are Bioflow collars.  They may not work for all but I had a 10 year old Patterdale Terrier bitch that started to get very stiff after walks and after a while of wearing one of these she never got stiff again and lived until 15.  Worth a try... I bought one especially for another of my terrier bitches who is only 3 at the moment but ruptured her cruciates a year ago so I thought it may help.  She's on glucosomine etc aswell.

I def second it Glucosamine with Chondroitin :-) Since I have put Tiva and Junior on it a huge difference in the both of them-

I use Joint Aid for dogs http://www.gwfnutrition.com/

but you can get it cheaper here
http://www.jointaid.co.uk/products.asp

It really does work, I certainly notice a difference if my 10 yr 7mth Boxer misses
her daily scoop.

Since reccomending it to a friend who has retired ex working gundogs (ESS) she uses
it on her very arthritic boy who since has made great improvements (prior to this she was thinking
she'd have to consider PTS).
