That is what I was thinking - refusing food should mean that something is about to happen.

fingers crossed this is getting to me, you must be going out of your mind.

Is she still pacing around?
Sorry to hear your sick Louise, me too - sick of waiting! She decided to eat her tea afterall then had a mad hour where she was jumping around like a puppy! Now settled to sleep so back to square one! Hope your feeling better soon Louise - keep you posted guys!
Forgot to add - temp back up to 37.5 - is this normal to drop then return?
Yeah a bit of pacing but much less, still the odd digging up behind the sofa but not enought to make me think she is having diffculty passing, more like finding a den? Given that tomorrow is NY Eve may take to the vets in the morning for a check up

Wouldnt hurt to let the vet have a look, she might even have one new years day :-)

I was going to add...blow the length of the thread!!! It's only monotonous if people are argueing over the 'same old same old' THIS my dear is NEWSWORTHY!!
I'm still hanging on and couldn't hardly dare to look!!!
Keep going little missiemoo with a poopie we all want to see born! ;-)

I did think that, if the pup was dead, it would have started decomposing by now. Wouldn't actually put that into words earlier, but now I know it's moving, and she hasn't been extremely ill, if it isn't a pup, it has to be the most galloping foreign body ever. Getting really excited now. It sure beats the telly! Taggabags, you are going to be like a zombie soon!

my last litter Mum began showing signs of labour on day 56 much to early, which terrified me as Teri will confirm, she went through until 1 day before her due date with her temperature up and down mooching around eating... not eating , following me around I was to concerned to leave her and have some sleep so we took it in turns, I knew she was starting by her eyes they go pink and glaze over found this to be more reliable than anything else for past litters.
know what you mean by the ripple efffect on the tum so its 'hope' ,as with everyone else been reading this with interest
praying for good news

That is so true, it is the glazed over look that alerts me more than anything. I've always said that I could tell by their eyes, but hadn't found the words, and glazed is it!

Just checking in to see how things are? :-)
> it is the glazed over look that alerts me more than anything. I've always said that I could tell by their eyes, but hadn't found the words, and glazed is it!
glazed is exactly it. its a bit like the look someone gets just before they faint. lights are on but no ones home.
New years eve update - me and little lady slept well thank goodness I am ready to drop! She is fine this morning but has turned her nose up at food once again. Temp this moring at 37 and watch the belly rumbles again last night, just to add they are only on one side of her tum. She had the glazed look a bit yesterday where she was starring into the distance and perhaps a little this morning. Hubby out with my other 4 pooches at the mo so when he is back with the dogmobile will see if he agrees to take to the vets for a check to see what they think as I would rather go today than tonight or tomorrow as an emergency (not that money is a worry just the delay in getting the vet out of bed!) Will keep you posted guys!
Take care and it beats Eastenders or Corrie!
Jean - just to confirm am already like a zombie! Have not left the house since christmas eve visit to vets, two weeks off work spent dog watching - LOL
Well at least staying in you havent picked up any flu, this is the second time in a month i have been off with it. Bet work think im faking, but ive applied for a new job so nevermind. How did she sleep is she panting any?
Louise
She slept like a log, did not move until I asked her out for toilet this morning then back in. She is wondering around a bit, just been upstairs under a few beds now back down, in and out her basket in the lounge and once or twice into her whelping box then up and around again! She has just eaten - however she left all the Pro Plan puppy kibble and ate the leftover turkey stew that I mixe in to tempt her - appears she is off the carrots having just stepped on one in the kitchen LOL. Keeping logged on to keep you posted, however to add to the situation like any good soap there is always a twist - my laptop died on me on Boxing day so I am tied to the back room computer for these updates! Roll on 2009 as 2008 proving not a good year - however consider I survived a massive brain heamorrage in 2007 (still recovering), two strokes in 2008 things are not too bad!!!!! Thats a whole nother story but I am well, two lovely kids, 5 lovely dogs and a OH who is helping out as men do!
Lady luck come my way pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

Blimey taggabags it sounds like last year wasnt so good at all, best wishes for your continued improvement in health, oh if there is a live puppy born we will all be just as delighted as you, would love it if puppy arrives right on midnight tonight, now that would be really special, if your area is anywhere like here at midnight the fireworks will be enough to set her off into labour thats for sure :-)
was with the father of the puppy in question last night he didnt have a care in the world why he was stealing from a carefully prepared buffet .I hope things turn out well for all concerned and you can get back to normal from nessa (soon to be auntie?)

Typical male mrs v, be it canine or human :-D
Just typical of the father to be to be off stuffing his face! Hope he saved you some buffett as know his owner would have gone to so much trouble to put frozen vol au vents in the oven - LOL. Little lady has slept allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll day! Only managed to wake for some sardines!
Still waiting

pheeewwwwww, i don't know how you are getting through this, Girls really get you down.
Still got every thing crossed for a live delivery.

Have you not taken her to the vets still? I had a dog that we thought was, she had little rumblings and what felt like little lumps in the stomach unfortunately it was not pups, just wind and the remains of food (your mind can make you think anything is good news sadly). Hope no matter what that all goes well with your girl.
Hi Taggabags, Hope your girly is still ok? Just to give you a bit of hope - I do Canine Ultrasound and the further along gestation the pup is, the harder is can be to source that heartbeat. Sometimes its there staring at you and other times you really have to look for it! i'll keep everything crossed for you! :-) Happy 2009 all xx

Hello Maria :-) Yvonne here from Dagenham, you came here and scanned one of my girlies in 08 I think it was, how are you doing? I am planning a litter late summer of this year so hopefully will have cause for you to came back then :-)
Yvonne.
Hi Maria, thanks for the post, reasurring! HAPPY NEW YEAR all!
Little miss sleeping as has done for 36 hours! Just ate breakfast and out for toilet, temp 37.5 and lots of belly movements again last night. At 3 this morning thought here we go when she woke me pulling up her blankets - However, she has been doing that all week to get comfy so not taking too seriously as she also does that in her usual bed in my dog room! Looks like whatever will happpen will be in 2009!
Keep you posted.
Yes keepig an open mind - as for vets well we decided seen as she is technically not due, not in any discomfort nor showing signs that things had started the vet might wonder why we were there? They have 24 hour cover and only less than 1/2 mile away, believe me I am looking for a valid excuse to visit the vets rather than trotting down as an over anxious owner! I will be down on saturday (63) if nothing has happended before then as the vet said if the pup they thought had died had indeed died then something should have happened by then and to bring her back for a scan and intervention to help expel the puppy!

Are you still walking her? - on lead of course ;)
I've found it helps them get ready for the birth, keeps them from getting bored and takes their minds off 'things'. Both mine have done a brisk (for me) mile at least on their delivery day

and loved sniffing about 'reading the paper' too. It also gets me out moving ;) rather than sitting at home worrying and worrying my bitch ;)
I always take a towel and small fleece in a small rucksack tho - just in case ;) but never needed it.
It's a pity you don't live nearer, I could loan you my trusty stethoscope, at this stage any heartbeat would be detectable at least some of the time ;)
Keeping everything crossed for a good result.
No walks for last couple of days, will take your advice and get her round the block for a swift trot! She has just been behind the sofa yet again digging the carpet as she has done almost ever day for the last week so good sign that she is trying to find a nest/den! She has not drank much in last 24 hours so keeping an eye although she has eaten this morning.
Keep you all posted and thanks for the words of advice all - appreciate the help
Regards

>Good grief, the suspense is killing!
It's worse than when my own have had pups

One thing it's taught me is that a stethoscope is a really important piece of kit.

A stethoscope is only as good as the operative! From my days Nursing I could guarantee someone would describe a windy belly as a heart murmur! ;-)
End of day update (well nearly) She has eaten well, had a little walk out and has slept much of the day with intermittent pacing around a bit, even opting to sleep in her whelping box on a few occaisions. Four or five sessions of behind the sofa digging at the carpet! She has spent a good deal of time licking her back end which I am taking as a good sign!
Update in the morning guys

Sleep tight! ;-)

please let it be tomorrow and my nerves are in tatters, hate to think what your's are like.

Anything? :-)
Morning all, well not much to report, slept well last night, well she did! Eaten this morning and temp just taken at 37.3 slightly down from usual reading so will be checking every couple of hours. She appears well so thats reassuring! Off to vets tomorrow on due day if nothing happens today?
Regards all
Had clear discharge at vulva on two checks today! No smell and nice and clear - fingers crossed

Looking forward to good news :-)
I do hope you have some good news over the next 24 hours or so - good luck.

>A stethoscope is only as good as the operative! From my days Nursing I could guarantee someone would describe >a windy belly as a heart murmur!

That's shocking, but not surprising - I've seen consultants and surgeons make enough mistakes with me - and I'm only one person
Luckily, using a stethoscope to detect puppy heartbeats is much simpler ;) they sound like ticking watches, once heard - never forgotten ;)
Little miss is now wanting to sleep in whelping box and is pretty restless, still searching for a dark corner! She is "yawning" alot and I seem to recall this is a sign of pain other than panting? Can any wise sole confirm if yawning i.e. opening mouth wide LOL is a sign she may be on the way?
Best wishes all

Yawning is usually a sign of nausea, a travel sick dog yawns repeatedly first before vomiting.
I must say this is the longest prep for labour I've ever known and I though Boxers were bad.
Thanks tooolz - the thread started as a query over what to expect with a single pup and expelling it only as time has gone on it has become a watch a wait as a chance there may be a pup! Hope the saga soon ends
