Hi there,

yesterday I took 3 of my boxers for a really good run and along the way they has a good game of tug with their football. One of them has quite bad epulis (like cauliflower gums) and I noticed after the walk she was quite quiet and was a little distressed in her mouth. I had a good look and one of the epulis's (a dangly one about half the size of a jelly bean) had got "chewed." Anyway today I noticed it has gone white and reduced in size. It is still attached to her gum and is still uncomfortable and painful to her. Do you think it has died and will just reduce in size or drop off?

I know epulis's are common in boxers and my vet didn't seemed too concerened about them, just wanted to see if anyones had this happen to them.

Thanks,
Aimi.

our boxers have suffered with them all except one bitch, one day they were all up to no good as usual in the garden and one of them came in and dropped something on the carpet, it was one of epulis's it was horrible, i know our vets dont like to op on them unless they start to cause infection with trapped food by the sound of your girls one the blood supply is dying to it hense colour change and hopefully by now it has fallen out.

It will drop off with no after effects.

My vets have always advised removing them when the overgrowth was getting in the way of eating - about 3 cases in 20 odd years but several of mine (pups sold - in other ownership) have been advised to do it much sooner.

I find this interesting as my Jozi had one and it had to be removed along with the cracked incisor.
