Topic Dog Boards / General / Trying to trace a golden retriever line

I have a wonderful golden retriever who will be 15yrs old in 3 months time. Obviously he is not going to go on for ever and we have been thinking of getting a new puppy. Just to be awkward we would like one from the same line as Dino's sire but the breeder stopped a few years ago and moved away. How would I go about tracing any other dogs that had the sire in their background? I have his name and his KC Reg number but am getting nowhere. Can anyone help?

There is a website where you can trace Golden Retriever pedigrees, it lists ALL Goldens ever registered with the KC. For each dog it also lists puppies sired by them etc, so by using that you can start with the sire and follow him down the liens so to speak and that might help if it leads you to a breeder who has him in their lines now. Now you have to apply for permission to use that site (You need a password and username) and I'm not sure how strict they are (i.e. if they limit it to breeders for instance, don't THINK so though) but the site is at:
http://www.standfastdata.co.uk/ You e-mail them and ask for permission, tell them why etc. If you fail, PM me the dog's details and I'll see if I can look for you.

Good luck. :) 15 is a wonderful age, my oldest Golden is coming up to 13 and he's the oldest I've had.

Ditto what Marianne says, Standfast is a brilliant site for finding out all things Golden!

Good luck! My oldest Goldie is 16 yrs 2 mths (the months are very important at that age LOL!)

Thanks for the help. I've registered with standfast and have traced a line I'd like. The dam had a litter in 2005 and again in 2007 so I'm hoping they'll go for a hat trick next year. Trouble is, though I now have the name how do I find out who owns the affix?

Dino is the oldest golden we've had so we are in unchartered territory here. He still thinks he's a puppy though, behaves as if he's about 4 at the most. Age is beginning to catch him up though as he has arthritis now but he has accupuncture every 5 weeks  and still gets around just fine.

Maybe putting the affix on here, someone might recognise it and give you the contact details.
Either that or google the affixs and something will come up :)

The dam is Denerose Little Flirt of Nakuru and the Sire is Barlyna Little Robin. Both lots of puppies have been Nakuru ........ ........

The name Diane Armitage keeps coming up with Nakura in results pages unless thats you!!
Good luck in your search!!!!

Well I've spoken to the breeder and she's not sure if she will be breeding again. She's worried about being left with puppies no-one will buy because of the credit crunch. Understandable but I want a puppy from that line!!!! She will ring me if she decides to go ahead but have to say I'm not holding my breath.
