hi.
hope someone can throw some light on a query i have!
we have a 4 month old stafiie puppy, very heathly and energetic etc...,what we have noticed is when shes come back from her walk and after a rest she seems to develop a limp which doesnt last too long.
yesturday it was her rear leg which seems to be fine now, today she has started to limp on one of her front legs.
shes been fine on the walk and on the way back etc...
could this be something like cramp? obviously i will get her checked out if it could be anything more serious.
any ideas?
thanks

update....
just gone downstairs and shes back to normal.
so am i right in thinking its something like cramp?

how much exercise is she getting? at 4 months old its very easy to over do it, especially in a lively breed such a SBT.

she'll have about 15 min walk in the morning, sometimes a good hour or so in the afternoons and another 15 min or so walk in the evening, the 2 times shes had a limp has been after the longer walks though

probably too long for any pup of that age Joe really.. cut it right down. Staffords are so active anyway, to walk a 4 month old for an hour or more is probably OTT
Agree with TT- my girl is just 8 months and she will only ever get an hour walk once a week. Although they seem as though they will go forever, this doesn't mean that it's good for them. I would be giving your girl 3 walks per day as you are- absolutely no more than 20mins on lead per day and then some nice free running and socialising which she can do at her own pace (probably flat out!). You are really doing her no favours with loads of exercise, try to focus more on socialisation, loads of different places, people and most importantly dogs. Best of luck getting rid of the limp.

thanks for all advice given, will certainly cut the walking down, shes walking fine now,no limp at all
obviously her health and growing are very important to us so advice greatly recieved.
she is just so full of energy,as you say they seem to want to go forever.
It's frustrating isn't it? They just want to keep going and we have to be the big meanies and tell them it's time to go home even though all their friends are still playing! Let's hope you will see a difference in your girl very soon.

too true,so when in your opinion can she start going for longer walks, also is there a limit to the lengh of time they can walk even when they are fully grown?

The KC advice is 5 minutes exercise per month of life, so at 4 months no more than a 20 minute walk, at 5 months 25 mins etc. You do need to be careful as growing bones are so soft they can easily get damaged.
