My breeder recommended I bathe my Pei in Malaseb, but my vet suggested it should only be used to treat specific skin irritations/conditions.

But I've read a few people on here saying that they wash their dogs in Malaseb - Olivia has really sensitive skin and I've been using K9 Aloe Vera, but am considering changing to Malaseb.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I understood Maleseb to be medicated and for specific skin problems and that it should not to be used as a routine shampoo.

You may want to clarify with your breeder but I'd say in my experience Malaseb is too strong for general use - go with your vets advice.  When I've had to use it regularly it's made my hands sore!  Lots of vets recommend Epi Soothe for more regular washing.

Most dogs don't need regular baths but, as your breed has specific needs, I'd wait for advice from some of the Sharpei owners on here about their hygeine regimes.

If you do a search on here for previous threads on itchy skin etc you'll find several recommendations for products such as Neem and Hibbiscrub (I use this to wash the mud off my boys as it makes them itch).  There are also a few specific Sharpei threads too.

Episoothe is a good one for shar pei, you can get this from Hyperdrug.

malaseb is medicated, we were given it for our old mastiffs absolutely awful skin condition. its not something for common use
