i've spent the last 1/2 hr teaching koda how to play my daughters keyboard hes shattered now, if i'd walked him for a couple of hours he would still be asking for more. Any ideas for more tricks to teach to impress my parents on christmas day? he knows spin, roll over,go back, figure of eight thru legs, crawl, give paw,paw touch, nose touch, bow, speak (loves that one) and can open the child gate(self taught watching us lol).

This is simple but effective. You have to teach him to lie on his side - this is simple if he already knows "down". But you teach it to the command "bang" and you pretend to shoot him.

We've won best trick at fun shows with this. If he doesn't get it right first time, you can ham it up and say "Hang on he's only wounded he's not dead yet!" and "shoot" him again!

Another good one I've seen is a dog taking a cap off your head.

Good luck - sounds like you're doing well with tricks anyway!

Leg weaving backwards!

> Leg weaving backwards!

I don't think I could do that :-D

My dog does the 'bang' drops to her side but she can't stop her tail wagging :-D

High Five is a favourite with youngsters.  Just develop the giving paw by holding your hand up palm showing towards the dog. At first he will just offer paw, but just keep putting your palm to his pads and gradually raise higher until he gets the idea.

Some of my previous dogs tricks not mentioned here yet were:
What does a dog say?(barks)
What does a bear say?(Growls)
What does a cat say?(funny whiney sound she used to do that sounded little bit like a cat especially when it was supposed to be a meaow sound)
Licking her lips on command (good brain work to teach this one)
crossing her front paws when laying down(the cue was me crossing my arms)
Keeping a treat on her nose until she was given premission to eat it
Clearing her toys in to her toybasket
Knowing the names of 3 different toys and bringing the one I asked for
Giving left and right paw (little bit more challenge to teach/learn than just a basic paw)
Where is my little finger/thumb/nose/stinkytoes? (touches the body part with her nose)
Give me a kiss (stands up against me and kisses my face)

There were more but I just can't think of them now as it was few years ago...

My current one knows how to give a paw and the other paw :)... I think I got lazy at some point!
I had one not so clever dog in between so I think I got little bit diheartened when trying to teach her after my "one in a million dog" (All Leos)
Current one is clever but not food oriented so more challenge to train and we only got her few months ago...
At least that is my excuse!

Great ideas everyone thanks for those, although leg weaving back would mean a trip to casualty for me :-) I'll try some and let you know how we get on.
Thanks again

The best trick I've managed to teach Buster -
I say "do ya love me?" - he nods his head :-D it looks soooooo cute :)

I've been carefull to keep the 'tune'/pitch of the question the same every time along with a hand signal, so now any question asked in the same 'tune' with the right hand signal, gets the same results - it's very convincing with "do ya like cheese?" - he gives a very eager nod with that one!

A really easy one that looks good, is I hold a treat in one closed hand, hold both hands in front of him and say "find it, paw" and he'll paw the hand with the treat in. "find it, nose" & he'll nudge the hand with the treat in :) - this one also works with cups/pots, it's safer with them if you have an eager paw-er.

Our dog also does the drop dead when shot trick but he rolls onto his back with all four feet straight up in the air - taught with a clicker to catch that all four legs in the air moment :-)

Another trick is to specify the item you want and get him to choose it from a selection.

He can also cover his eyes when told "no peeping" - again taught with a clicker. Put him in a down, put a small sticky label on his nose and when he goes to rub it off with his paws, click and treat. Then introduce the no peeping command, once associated with the action you can dispense with the label and trick is learnt.

My daughter has taught our dog "Bang!" as well.... but he'll only do it on carpet!  If he's not on the carpet when the command comes then he'll drop one shoulder and stagger over to the nearest rug before collapsing :o)

My Anton lies down next to me, Gives me a hug with his front paws and then gives me a kiss.  Never trained it he's just done it since being a puppy.  Will try this for the Club's new year party but say with a duvet and pillow :)
