Okay I have lovely neighbours we are not in each other pockets, but do look out for each other loan/borrow bits pieces etc I think I have only been in about 2 of their houses however lots of them have grown up children, and some no partners now due to death and some never had and live alone....some have children, some care for older parents/partners etc however I thought Credit Crunch....lack of good will we hear so much about how about a neighbourhood that rebelled ....etc going on how about inviting some of them for a drink....(would do this in person ie knocking on th door tomorrow night)

My question is what day would you prefer?
Christmas eve between say 4-6 or 5-7 (before everyone settles down)

or

Christmas morning.....I know lots are at home and I thought about 11-12 for a mince pie and a Christmas drink

...which would you prefer if you were my neighbour and would you feel like you would not come.....no one has doen this by me before I mean we go to funerals etc but I thought similar to that song "give them the flowers now" why not get together in good times...must say "drinks" are not the thing around here....and would you come.

It depends - I think that probably Christmas Eve between 4 & 6 might be nice - some people though would still be frantically trying to "get ready" for Christmas.

If people are "doing" Christmas dinner then Christmas morning might be the wrong time.

Its a lovely thought though Kaz - and I'm sure people will be delighted at it.   Hope you have a lovely Christmas - you deserve it!

I think probably Christmas Eve would be better - on Christmas morning some people might be going to church, or getting the lunch ready. I think it's a lovely idea, and hope it's a wonderful success. Happy Christmas!

Yeah its the timing I choose that will make or break it won't it......maybe Christmas day night??? although the Christmas day one we all live within on minutes walk from each other....so dinner could be in.

I would make it Christmas Eve, Christmas Day is usually hectic with family (well it is here anyway). It's a really nice idea, I hope it will be a huge success :o)

Don't let Denese though that you're inviting STRANGERS into your home! :-D

Christmas Eve, except if any of them are European, as we start our Christmas celebrations on Christmas Eve evening with supper, then presents and midnight mass.

Hi Kazz, my parents have done this for years and they invite people along on new years day after noon for a hair of the dog.  Their neighbours do the xmas day noon to 3pm and all the street get invited.  It is a great way for people to get together and those who don't have family enjoy the company and those with lots of family are glad of the break from their own families.  I would say smas eve 5-7pm as many people are working on xmas eve this year.  Hope all goes well.

Christmas eve would get my vote but it might be worth checking church activity in your area.  My daughter has volunteered to help marshall the 'littlies' for the Crib Service this year which is on Christmas Eve and there are often carol services at this sort of time in the evening which get even the most casual church goers motivated to attend.  Have a lovely time xx

I suspect if you install scanning equipment at the front door with face recognition devices you might be safe, but just to make sure please install listening equipment in your fruit bowls and strip search your guests as they leave.  You can never be too careful! :)
