Hi

I was just wondering if it is ok to feed my 5 month old puppy bones, and if so what sort of bones?
Are fresh ones from the butchers ok or the rawhide ones?

Thanks
Emma

My girl had a marrow bone at 7 weeks.  She gave it a really good try and slept lying across it - lol.  We took it off her when it started to get really smelly.  Fresh is best, never rawhide.

You need to feed raw bones and you can feed from a pup, (I fed mine from 7 weeks old).  You can feed raw chicken wings, lamb breasts, oxtail, you are best sticking with chicken and lamb bones as these are the youngest and softest bones.  A large marrow bone is also good for recreation.

Never give cooked bones these are dangerous and can splinter and rawhide is also a bit tricky as it can go quite glue like and so be a choking hazard.

she'll love it, and if you get her a recreational bone from the butcher she'll knacker herself out munching. its great for their chest and neck muscles and their teeth, also for a bit of peace for you :)

On the subject of bones I was talking to a man I met with his spaniel. nearly choked when he told me I was doing it wrong and that I should only give cooked bones to my dogs like he does !!
Made my excuses and left the conversation rapidly
