Hi Ann

I'm so sorry that your poor girl had to go through the trauma and risks of an op under GA :(   Not much fun for you either with the added worry.
TBH were this my vet I'd be exceptionally annoyed - mistaking feeling a pup may be possible, but to claim to have seen one there and assess as being alive seems bizarre to me.  However I don't know for sure as I'm not qualified to assess such things so perhaps the grainy grey areas of scan images can mislead the pros too.  Not good enough though :(

Positive healing thoughts for a speedy return to normal for your girl and that the two pups safely at home feed and grow well.

good luck, Teri :)

i agree even if he was mistaken that a pup was there, he should accept he made a mistake and to apologise refund the money. (not that i think money is acceptable for putting you and your little girl through that)

Just spent the afternoon reading this thread.

Wow you must be exhausted after all of that, i know i am after reading it all the way through.

Well done to you and your girl. You have 2 pups and this is fantastic, you planning on keeping one of them or both?

I agree i would get some sleep, calm down and when your mind is in the right light then proceed to getting your money back from the vets.. That is shocking.. BUT how wrong are these scanners, or are they as good as the people using them?

Hi Sue

Hopefully if both are ok I will run both on until an age where the choice becomes obvious- when they are being shown I would guess
I probably won't keep both forever as I feel it would give me limited options for a breeding programme in years to come as litter sisters.

It gets worse- I just had a call from the nurse at vets to say the pain relief they have given me for Mischa is not to be used on pregnant/lactating bitches- thank God I had not given any yet.

I told her I plan to complain and she is going to speak to the senior partner this weekend
I explained I appreciate a mistake can happen but then to be charged £250 for it is taking the p***- excuse my language!

Mum and babies nice and calm and hoping things get better from now on.

I had been asked to write an account of my experience with my first litter for the club magazine- maybe I shouldn't in case I put others off

Ann write your article. Every litter of pups is as different as there are experiences in life.
Maybe your experience will encourage others to ask more questions of there vet and if you also comment on the advice and support you got from Mischa's breeder, stud dog owner, "Champdogs" and friends it can only make it easier for other novices to realise that asking questions isn't a nusiance or dumb.  Better a question asked than a litter lost.

I hope Mischa and her pups grow stronger each day, and when you are feeling less tired and traumatised sit and write your letter to the vets.  I know the scanner is a new bit of equipment in your vets and ok a mistake was made in reading the scan, but to then do the C section and to then mis prescribe medication especially a pain killer is sheer incompetence.

Misprescibing medicine on top of everything else really has taken the biscuit, seems quite incompetent of the vet truthfully :-(

I hope you,Mischa and her new girls will go on and do better by the day, you take good care of yourself as well Ann, you have had a very stressfull time to.

Hi and congratulations to you and Mischa on the new babies.  You have done so well!
I have been following this thread with interest.
I found my first litter experience much scarer and stressful than having human babies myself (LOL).
Fingers crossed for easier time ahead!
