Maybe you should take it up with the FCI Tommee? It would be interesting to know why they decided that the : Country of Origin of the breed: SWITZERLAND

My daughter has two Australian shepherds. When she got the first I looked up the breed history. From what I read they were bred in Spain by shepherds from their own dogs, mated to German Sheep dogs (note not Shepherd as this was before the GSD we know today was standardised). The cross was made to increase the size of the dogs. These shepherds emigrated to Australia taking their dogs with them. They were later taken to USA. There are newspaper accounts of them being imported into the USA around 1840. The breed will no doubt have been altered in the USA since then.

That's because the Swiss Kennel Club recognised the "breed" before the FCI.

I have met shepherds from all over the world, the Australia's have never used ASDs with their sheep, they use Kelpies & "header"dogs(equivalent of BCs). Lots of (human)Australian shepherds come from generations of shepherds & have family records going back to the early days of colonisation. They have drawings/ paintings from this time & no reference to special dogs developed from header dogs/ German sheepworkers , there are records of the Merino sheep & their shepherds & dogs, a motley crew of collie TYPE dogs, similar to sheepdogs native to Spain & the Iberian peninsula of the time. Nothing that looked like an ASD.

The GSD evolved from various sheep working types in Germany & developed the shepherding along the years. They work sheep by keeping them bejind a line in a field to regulate the forage use & also by driving them from the side & rear between fields/farms/ market etc. The Dutch/ Belgian shepherds work in a similar way.

The study of sheep/stock working breeds is fascinating, much depends on the nature of the sheep/ stock being worked & the land on which they live. I love the stories thought up by the developers of new breeds that are fed to people in the guise of proven facts.

If ASD sre an proven australian breed, why were Collies exported to Australia on a very regular basis & crossed with their Kelpies to work sheep in Australia ?? Surely they would simply use the breed they already had ?

I have a White Swiss Shepherd Nora. She is my crazy little world. Wild as she is, but always prepared to learn new things. She already knows a few tricks --> beg, around-spin, roll over, play dead, jump through the hop, jump over my arm, high 5, jump over my leg, does heeling very well etc. And basic comands as: sit, down, wait, right/left paw... She is awesome indeed.
