That's because the Swiss Kennel Club recognised the "breed" before the FCI.
I have met shepherds from all over the world, the Australia's have never used ASDs with their sheep, they use Kelpies & "header"dogs(equivalent of BCs). Lots of (human)Australian shepherds come from generations of shepherds & have family records going back to the early days of colonisation. They have drawings/ paintings from this time & no reference to special dogs developed from header dogs/ German sheepworkers , there are records of the Merino sheep & their shepherds & dogs, a motley crew of collie TYPE dogs, similar to sheepdogs native to Spain & the Iberian peninsula of the time. Nothing that looked like an ASD.
The GSD evolved from various sheep working types in Germany & developed the shepherding along the years. They work sheep by keeping them bejind a line in a field to regulate the forage use & also by driving them from the side & rear between fields/farms/ market etc. The Dutch/ Belgian shepherds work in a similar way.
The study of sheep/stock working breeds is fascinating, much depends on the nature of the sheep/ stock being worked & the land on which they live. I love the stories thought up by the developers of new breeds that are fed to people in the guise of proven facts.
If ASD sre an proven australian breed, why were Collies exported to Australia on a very regular basis & crossed with their Kelpies to work sheep in Australia ?? Surely they would simply use the breed they already had ?
