Well yesterday afternoon it was like a summers day (looking out of the window at work.) Totally blue skies, and it looked glorious, but was very, very cold. By the time I left work it was dark and raining quite hard. Changed to hail by the time I got home.
Today is positively summertime! :-) A crisp 4C and blue skies and sun.
> Today is positively summertime! A crisp 4C and blue skies and sun.
Being in the South West certainly has its benefits - it's been glorious today and, if I hadn't needed to get back, I could have walked with the dogs for hours :)
> thunder snow
Usually I think anything with snow in it can't be bad, but I'm guessing Tara won't like that :-(

Is it working yet??? Storms snow dance hasn't done us any good, gotta try something?

Storm's danced so hard his legs have worn down and he's an Alaskan Klee Klai now!!

We had such a nice walk in the bush this morning. The January thaw is over and the crust on the snow will hold me up. With crust like that we can walk anywhere we like, no fear of trampling tender plants, and we can see through the bush better than when everything is green.
Do any of you get crusty snow that holds you up and allows so much more freedom of movement?

We have at least 6 inches in Norfolk, in fact in the drifts it went over my wellies this morning. Very happy and exhausted dogs, like little kids rolling in the white stuff and coming up like doggie snowmen

Oh lucky lucky you!
It looks like most of us are going to get quite a bit on Friday :-)

Scarborough has had show all week so far dogs loved it came in all wet, there is 4ins here. Cold frostie and bright.

This is better than the weather forecast, it's like a current ongoing UK wide update page :)

Not me please. No, no no. I am liking the sunny skies. Even if it is freezing, the blue skies always lift my mood.
Please can I keep what I've got now? I don't want the white stuff, thank you very much.
> It looks like most of us are going to get quite a bit on Friday
Mmm.... I think those of us that aren't 'most' will be grinding our teeth in envy.
Just for the record, I didn't choose to live on the Somerset Levels!
;)
I love the look of snow and always watch the weather avidly when we get extreme situations such as this coming event, however, this time I feel a bit different.
I'm due to take my girlie for a scan on Saturday to confirm pregnancy. Last season she had a phantom so wanted to make sure this time if it was the real thing or not.
All symptoms are showing as in whelp...so fingers crossed.
It's quite a distance away at the bottom of a big hill!
Will I make it there or will the snow be so bad I can't get the car off the drive?
Appt lunch time on Saturday.....

Well it's snowing here now,I've just been out and gritted the car park right up to the top of the street so I can get out in the morning. I didn't do it the last couple of yrs just to see if my horrible neighbors would get off their backsides but no they didn't so the car park was out of bounds and I had to park up in the next street. Watched them all struggle but not one of them would use the grit box that the council provide for us. Oh well at least I can clear the snow off the van and turn the engine on to warm it up while I have a cuppa.
It's been snowing here since around 5 this evening....it's settling on the footpaths but not too much on the roads, but mores forecast right through until Saturday night.

Started here around that time too. It's covering everything and I've stupidly agreed to do tuck ins on Sat night! The main roads are fine at the min, side roads will be a nightmare. Some of them I don't dare attempt to go up or down so I usually park and walk to the call.

Coming down quite heavily here now and the wind has increased as well. The worst is predicted here in a couple of hours for the rest of the day. The hounds have been out to inspect the garden and looked quite excited but will wait until later on to take them out as have got some work to do

It's started here at last, only a light covering. West Sussex
> Do any of you get crusty snow that holds you up and allows so much more freedom of movement?
Nope here (outskirts of Bristol, South West UK) it is horrid wet stuff that then freezes into hard Ice, making walking treacherous.
Woke up to this this morning, two of the girls have never seen snow, and are as wt as after rain (though ti never really penetrates their coats).
Not looking forward to walking the six of them later. :( Especially with my untrustworthy knee.
Wish it was the kind of snow I encountered in Finland in October 2006, (very low humidity) which when you fell over you didn't even get wet (I tripped over their kids toys).

We woke up to good 3/4 inches, The girlies have yet to go out in it but have ventured out for a pee. Not sure if I can get to the main road and down to the park or if I will have to road walk them.
Aileen

Yay, coming down stormy and heavy in south wales but thunder and weird green lightning making me a bit nervous as power has dipped a couple of times.

We've got a few inches.
Haven't taken son to school as they have enough staff in for childcare, but not for teaching & I can do that at home.
Pup is astonished by it all. Looking forward to taking kids and dog out to play in it in a bit!

Chichester area, it's falling like icing sugar, we need some good BIG flakes though. It is settleing but not very impressive yet. We will take the dogs out soon maybe it will be better up on the downs ! :) I will take my camera out today and hope to get some good pictures of the dogs enjoying themselves.

Thunder! Haven't heard any yet? Are you sure you haven't been visited by aliens - perhaps Dr Who left some of his snow monsters around! Funny Meg was a bit jumpy last night as the wind got up.
In response to Lunamoona that is!

Well it's coming down thick and fast here now. I've just re gritted the car park . The roads are terrible, even the main roads are bad, traffic is crawling and my van has the road holding capability of a bar of soap!! I could cry!! One of my lot wants to sit out in it! Stupid dog, have always said he's my mentally handicapped child lol

Ha, no aliens in sight and snow blown over, just a few specks coming now, boo! My toddler was pretty impressed with what we had though but too cold to stay out for long.

The sky still looks heavy with it - haven't bothered to go and sweep the paths until it has stopped completely!

Well I've survived my lunch run! So many lorries were getting stuck on the hills that we ended up parking and walking up to the calls then driving to as near to the next call as we could. The car park is thick again so I'm back to parking in the next street so that I can get out and about tomorrow morning for the get up run. And it's still coming down thick and fast. All our local schools are closed. With the treacherous road conditions there were still idiots using their mobile phones whilst driving!!

We had a good covering of snow earlier today, then stopped and just staretd again. Some rotten buggars STOLE the rugs off my donkeys backs last night, they were very wet and extremely cold this morning !! :( :( The police have been informed and I do have a CRIME number

Oh dear, poor donkeys. What utter scumbags to steal literally off their backs. What will you do? Do you have more rugs? or can you bring them inside?

So we call ourselves a nation of animal lovers! There are some nasty people around, what a despicable thing to do. Hope they are caught, maybe they would like to stand in freezing field naked! Hope your poor donkeys don't get ill.
We've had an inch here in Lancs.
Pup thinks it's great fun !
We lost our electricity for a couple of hours last night, just as I was half way through cooking tea !
So it's torches at the ready for tonight.
Just taken me 3 hours to do a 7 miles journey, lorries and cars getting stuck on main A road :(

Luckily I have spare rugs, their nice and warm now, just wish there was a way to padlock them onto the girls ????

We have heavy snow in Northumberland , and just been out and there was THUNDER AND LIGHTNING . Anyone else got the thunder ?
We've had snow all day so schools closed early and lots sent home early from work and it seems there was an earthquake not far away from us but the earth didn't move for me

Ooh earthquake , where abouts you from ? My son was sent home early from school too , and then I received a text from the school later to ask that the children all bring in a spade on Monday as it will be their job to clear the grounds !! I can't quite believe it , surely it is for the caretaker and council to sort out.

What a bunch of utter sods stealing the donkeys rugs ! I hope their dangly bits fall off in the cold.
So far very little snow in east Fife, bit disappointing.
It's been snowing all day here from about 9 am this morning....we have 12 cm and its still snowing.
Met office have forecast snow all night and tomorrow until 3 pm.
Glad I stocked up yesterday!
The earthquake was Loughborough area. Do they really expect the children to clear the snow, can't believe the cheek of it, what lesson does that fall into child labour lol

Yes it's a shame they did'nt get a kick in the b---s!!
Another set of rugs on, warmed them up after a while (talking about the donkeys now)but they were very cold, wet and shaky for a while. I wonder if they will still be on them in the morning ?
