Much of the problem IMO is the trend of 'breed gathering'.
Agreeing to judge anything, the more the better, seems to be in vogue.
Its all about lists and numbers for many people now - so they will judge breeds they actually know nothing about and care even less.
At an open show recently I watched a young, tall, dark haired suited and booted handsome judge ( you may get it from the description :-) )
Go through his judging. It was painfully obvious - with his air of utter boredom, aloofness and downright rudeness that he was there to boost his numbers and couldnt give a hoot for the breed, dogs or owners. Barely spoke, sneered, pointed and gazed over the head of almost all exhibits.
He could not have made it any plainer that he was too good for that little open show and its little people if he tried.
Climbing towards tickets is what its about.

I had an experience a few years ago and this was with a breed judge at open level. I put my dog of a long coated breed on the table, the judge put her hands on the dog and said "Oh I can only feel one he must be holding the other up" to which I replied "that would be quite hard considering he is a BITCH!" She just laughed and said "she is quite big that's why I thought it was only one" So just shows you that even when putting hands on some judges can still not get it right!!

> I pointed out that liver is a standard colour and asked him if he said the same thing about yellow labradors not turning black. He looked rather puzzled and walked away.

pmsl..that was a very good response..good thinking.
years ago when showing my first pem pup i was in avnsc and the judge called for the vallhund please only one problem there was me with a tri pem, two pyrenean mountain dogs and a lancashire heeler so who was the vallhund yes it was me then he called the pmds out as oes and the heeler was called 4th as a german pincsher the scary part was this judge was doing best in show where was his knowledge of basic as we where then the working breeds and he showed a great dane
A friend was telling me the other week that her Toller was entered at a show, and after the judging she heard the judge say 'funniest looking Golden Retriever I've ever seen...'!!!! This particular Toller is actually a very good example of a Toller :-D
