Topic Dog Boards / Health / sticky buds!!

Can anyone help me? My border colie Jake grazes when ever he is let out in the garden not on grass like my other dogs but sticky buds, I'm concerned that it might not be too good for his throat he eats quite large quanties if he gets the chance.

He is on a good quality food so I'm curious as to why he has this strange habit. I do pull up as much as I can to reduce the problem. Any ideas as to why he is doing this would be much appreciated.

A colleague of mine has a SBT cross who also grazes on 'goose grass' as we call it, he's never seemed to have a problem.... Grass itself can be quite abrasive, and it often seems the more abrasve the better for some dogs.

are you talking about the stuff that feels like velcro to the touch and has little ball things that fall off and stick every where (known as sticky willy in some areas) ?
If it's what I think you mean then I caught our pup eating it yesterday.

I really should do some weeding :D

might be called sticky willy where you live!!!! . we have goosegrass too ,i agree its very abrasive, one of the sharpei is always sticking her head into it, it started a flare up in her eyes, i didnt know what was wrong at first and thought shed developed an eye problem-but it was only there when shed been in the garden, i watched to see what it could be and found it was the goosegrass, when i went to pull as much of it out as i could ,my wrists itched all night long from it,
